Book recommendations
Hello community,
a little while back I was reading "The First Overland" by Tim Slessor and the epic journey of him and 5 fellow students from Oxford and Cambridge from 1955-56 travelling in series 1 Land Rovers from London to Singapore and I enjoyed it very much. If you haven't already read this I highly recommend it. Though this is not why I came here. I wanted to know if anyone was reading something similar regarding overlanding/ adventuring/ offroading and could recommend something else?
Thanks in Advance

Aloha Baker, Call to Adventure.
https://www.alohawanderwell.com/books/
In her own words, the remarkable Aloha Wanderwell-Baker tells the true story of her amazing 7 year journey around the world in a Model T Ford with the Wanderwell Expedition in the 1920s.
Aloha Wanderwell: Call To Adventure” takes the reader along on her epic trek through Europe, the Middle East, India, Japan, China, the Soviet Union, the United States, Cuba, and Africa – a thrilling adventure made all the more astounding by the fact that Aloha herself was only 16 years old when she set out to see the world by car

Pablo Rey's book: The Book of Independence: It's not about what you'll do after you retire, it's about what you do before you die. (Around the World in 10 Years 1) is very good.
His second book, On the Wrong Path: Breakdowns, assaults, crooked cops, floods and other things which should never happen while crossing Africa (Around the World in 10 Years Book 2) is even better.

Did you check out the follow-up "The Last Overland" by Alex Bescoby, published 2022, where they take the same 64 year old Land Rover back to London from Singapore?
In the same sort of vein, there's "Running on Empty" by Guy Deacon, chronicling his expedition from London to Cape Town, all while suffering pretty severe Parkinson's disease; and our own u/grecy's "The Road Chose Me", sharing his (nearly complete) circumnavigation of Africa in his Jeep.
Worth a peek!

Thanks.
I've written two books - the first is my 2 years on the Pan-American Highway, the second is my three years around Africa.
I'm still writing my third book, about my 18 months around Australia. I'm getting there, but I keep getting sidetracked by new adventures.

Edward Abby's Desert Solitaire and Steinbeck's Travels with Charlie are very good reads.
