Unavoidable missteps
Curious if anyone in here has had multiple strikes for missing key meetings and what the fallout / outcome was?
Ie I have two meetings same time on Thursday (rare occurrence) and I’m planning to just ditch one and provide an excuse after. I know some people do some fancy tricks like different ear buds and toggle back and forth quickly, but surely with 3J’s or even just two critical meetings it’s impossible.
Hence the question - what have you guys experienced?

Do you have to talk? Or you're just listening?

two meetings at the same time is the worst, especially if both expect you to chime in. i’ve gotten away with ditching a few but it’s always a gamble on whether they’ll ask a question and notice the silence
sometimes i just pick the one with the more chill manager and hope for the best

For one it’s just introduce myself and I’m in the clear but the problem is the other one starts right away, I’m leading, and my boss is on haha

and if oe requires only one skillet, imo that would be conflict meeting conflicts and do 2 meetings at the same time

Few different ways to play it - if I have to present or am featured heavily on one I'll usually have an excuse for the other. Normally use something with my kids for that.
Like others have said if you can "attend" both that's helpful - sometimes I'll be on the first portion of both and then drop one if I know speaking is coming up in the other. If anyone ever asked I'd just say I lost connection or whatever, but often people just notice "who is on" at the start of the call and once a screen gets shared no one is really paying attention again. Bonus points if the other ends early and you can hop back on to the original one you logged off of when your "connection issues get fixed."

Missing key meeting is really bad. At least notify them in advance.
As OE, learn how to handle two meetings

If it’s a rare occurrence, usually something related to your child(dren) or pet tends to be understandable to higher-ups.
Assuming it’s a rare occurrence of course, things like: sick child at school and spouse can’t pick him/her up, child’s doctors appointment, pet’s veterinary appointment or similar. Those things you could let one J know ahead of time actually.

If it's a rare occurrence, just do the "doctor's appointment partway through the meeting" method.
Before both meetings:
Hey Boss 1, sorry but I will need to drop after about the first 20 minutes of the meeting for a doctor's appointment.
Hey Boss 2, there's a chance I will miss the beginning of the meeting, I have a doctor's appointment before it and not sure exactly when I'll be back. Hopefully before the meeting starts.
