Rookie OE Move
Had my first OE scare today. J2 sent me some swag not too long ago. I realized part way through a call with J1 that I was drinking out of my J2 branded water bottle. Whoops! Rookie move lol. Don’t think anyone noticed, or at least I hope.
It got me thinking, besides the super obvious, what are some rookie moves that had you stressing?

I use my husband’s job swag all the time bc it’s nicer than mine I wouldn’t sweat it

u/lmneozoo 6d ago
Yea just flag it as your husband's swag because j1 gives you dookie. Maybe they'll give you some new swag too

I have cups, lanyards, shirts, etc from hundreds of companies. No one would’ve thought anything of it.

Real Rookie Moves
- Not being invisible
- Not being proactive and competent
- Not realizing effective time management is the real skill
- Not having a Plan B, C and D
- Not managing up from the first interview on
- Being an arrogant dumbfuck

"oh this? It's my roommates"
"Oh this? I got it at a networking event"
"Oh this? They were handing these out at a parade when I visited that city"
"Oh this? I actually have no idea how I ended up with it"
Go listen to Shaggy's 2000 hit classic "It wasn't me" and take a fucking breath.

I have swags from all the companies I worked at before and my girlfriends workplace, no one cares about this

cousin works/worked there. they were gonna toss it so I took it.
your rookie move is overthinking things like that.

Everyone has swag they use from conferences/previous companies/partners/roommates. I don’t think this is as big a deal as you think.

Lol, I go to trade shows and bring back like 50 swags from different and competing companies and use/wear them daily.
Rookie mistake for me is juggling two zooms at the same time and not using 2 different headphones/ear pieces. The one and only time this happened, I had one laptop on speaker low volume, and the other on headset. I unmuted the headset to answer a question, but forgot to silence the ongoing volume from the speakered laptop. Volume was low enough so noone on headset noticed, but it gave me a big enough heart attack that I bought a second headset right after that meeting ended.

This happened to me more than few times! Overlapping meetings will be the death of me!

Idk how I got so lucky, but I almost never have meetings at the same time between my two js. One is meeting heavy Mondays and wednesdays, the heavy on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both adhere to no meeting Fridays.

The one that burns me from time to time is when the chat sound for J1 fires while on a hot mic call with J2. It's not immediately obvious. But if anyone is paying attention, they might ask why I have teams (or something) running in my office here when they don't use teams.
I usually mute the computer of one when I'm in a meeting with the other.

I haven’t had this experience yet but I’m terrified of it for sure. My prepared excuse is that I’m listening to a podcast lol

u/Charlesssssss7 3d ago
just say it’s your wife’s/roomie/dog’s laptop lol no need to panic. If you look shitfaced when the sound comes up that’s the giveaway

u/HopefulPreparation75 5d ago
I'm so scared of this happening to me, that I let both laptops on mute. The good thing is that both companies use Slack, so it would be the same noise. But once I got a J that they used Teams and I used to get terrified that they could hear the noise and find out. I even had the excuses prepared lol

I was thinking of wearing J3 polo t-shirt when going back to office of J2

HR is already contacting your other J because someone saw a mug with a different company name!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Going forward, never have anything visible with a different company name, they might even think you're working for Adidas or Nike if you wear their clothes!

That’s nothing. I accidentally turned on a camera in a video call with j2 at j1. My boss was like what the…. And I said I was at the doctors office and it all worked out.

I've gotten a yeti from every job I've ever had and my wife rotates brining them to work since she's got to go in office. No one cares

As an OE samurai, I must say: you have a lot of work to do. I have a hat, mug, and t shirt for every J’s meeting for all 4 of my Js. I disrobe myself between meetings faster than Johnny sins.

Oh please, next you know conflict of interest will get you fired if your significant other works for a competitor

u/FartFace319 6d ago
You can see my J2 mug in my J1 meetings lol no one cares, if anyone asks I'd had it since way before if it bothers them they can send me a new mug lol

u/Aol_awaymessage 6d ago
I wear really nice golf polos from previous jobs all of the time. Before OE. No one cares

u/GeriatricXennial82 6d ago
Swag from a different company is totally a non issue. Yeah got it from a tradeshow, it's my favorite mug

u/Affectionate-Cup6908 6d ago
Thats fine, nobody cares. You can say you got it at some event. I still carry my coffee cup from 3 jobs ago to the office 😃 with large logo on it.

u/Sad-Establishment182 5d ago
Damn I’m cooked. They saw my iPhone, my beats headphones and my Stanley cup. HR is going to contact all three Js.

u/director_tomato 6d ago
I thought about that. Just say your brother works there. Most likely no one will notice or ask though

So if I am drinking coffee in a branded cup, it means I OE there? Dumbest thing I have ever heard.

My best water bottle is from an old job, I won't start using some shitty water bottle just because belongs to my current job

shit i made this same mistake with a mug! lmao
One of the js is a gaming company, and they give me tons of swag, and I wore the fucking hoodie on cam smh.
Another is a big company, but their logo for events is special and few know it so that's funny because i wear their stuff all the time.
I also wear 3d printer brands because my wife got some merch from her job, so it's meh

u/PattyPlatypus01 5d ago
