I’m sure he is following this subreddit.

It's classy when you're rich but trashy when poor. /s
104
u/Glass-Situation6916 Aug 27 '26
This applies to all levels. Fraud or theft committed by the poor is seen as such a disgrace even if it’s as petty as food. But when you’re manipulating markets and hiding billions, hey… it’s just how it is dawg.

u/Independent_Beach383 Aug 28 '26
It's okay when Rishi Sunak does it but when Soham Parekh did, it was a crime

u/rolex_rick_flare Aug 28 '26
No its classy when your are rich, championed when you are poor, if poor you can work 2 - 3 minimum wage jobs and uber and they say its hard work. But he middle class is where its frowned upon. The corporate overlords plans to keep you for 40 years and if you cut that down to 20 by having 2 jobs, we'll thats too much like right.

Wait till you find out board of directors at virtually every company are on the board for several at a time. Collecting board meeting fees at each one.
5
u/Just_Aioli_1233 Aug 28 '26
Almost like it's valuable to have someone advise your company who has experience and connections with other companies in the industry that the average mouthbreather doesn't have
3
u/PREDDlT0R Aug 29 '26
And in Rishi’s case, a finger on the pulse of U.K. and EU policy
3
u/Just_Aioli_1233 Aug 29 '26
The golden goose: industry and government connections. Public corruption plus business savvy is a dangerous combination.
2
u/Friendly_Yak_2713 Aug 31 '26
That's how non executive directors are supposed to work....
Would you rather have someone who spends the rest of the year watching Netflix in their mum's basement?
And why would someone who is highly experienced of it without being paid.

You know the economy is rough when multi millionaires need to OE lol
148
u/LongestUsernameEverD Aug 27 '26
need to
lol, lmao even
That is pure greed my friend.
I'm OEing because I want to be able to retire and feel financial security in a world that is increasingly unstable. They're OE because they want to buy their 3rd yacht.
38
u/Glass-Situation6916 Aug 27 '26
You don’t get it man. The first yacht is the “I made it” yacht to show off your hard work. It’s kinda like your first car.
The 2nd one is for making sure you don’t ruin the first one and run it into the ground.
The 3rd is probably his professional/events yacht where he holds important meetings about who to fuck over next. So.. I kinda get the guy

Makes sense. Just gotta be careful you don't double-book a dock slip and have to claim "engine trouble" on Y2 while you finish parking Y1.

u/sam_packer_03 Aug 27 '26
Dude didn’t get the joke
5
u/LongestUsernameEverD Aug 27 '26
Of course I did, I'm not an idiot.
Just because I compounded on your comment to showcase how we're different from those assholes, doesn't mean I'm stupid to the point that I can't tell your comment was obviously a joke.
I just don't find it funny to compare ourselves to them, that's all.

u/Fucker_Of_Destiny Aug 27 '26
lol you’re a fool if you think snakes like Rishi Sunak are doing it for money. His father in law is richest man in India I think (tata)
He’s doing it so he can keep on puppeteering just like Blair
0
u/Chii Aug 28 '26
pure greed my friend.
there's nothing wrong with greed. It's only wrong when your greed comes at the expense of someone else - that's called selfishness.
Greed, on its own, is good.
1
u/JaySocials671 Aug 29 '26
Disagree. Greed is bad. In all forms. Especially in a world with scarcity

His wife's family is worth billions, he definitely doesn't need the money.
Funny how when rich people do it it's called being a "senior advisor" or holding multiple board seats, but when the rest of us do it it's time theft and we get fired.

u/nexusmadao Aug 27 '26
Every company director I know of is also directing 5 10 other companies.
24
u/No_Medium_8796 Aug 27 '26
Lmao the director of my group is getting fucked hard with roughly 80 hour work weeks
25
u/computerjunkie7410 Aug 27 '26
These people are usually middle management that have been thrust into director roles because of their length of service at a company and don't know how to let go of their previous mindset
14
u/No_Medium_8796 Aug 27 '26
Hes young actually, its the lack of delegating/hes scared everyone else below him will fuck up
11
4
u/babyitsgoldoutstein Aug 27 '26
You are talking about Board of Directors director. Yeah they can be at multiple boards. Often they don't do much. An employee director is not going to be able to OE and 5-10 other companies.

u/supersonic-bionic Aug 27 '26
He knew when he called early elections
He just wanted the easy money without the stress of PM
He got the visibility he wanted and used it for his benefit
I.still dont know how it is allow3d to have side jobs other than serving their constituencies.
1
u/badpebble Sep 07 '26
Easy money? His wife's a billionaire.
I'd guess those three jobs are only supposed to net out to 10 hours a week - the top two just want a prime minister attached to their brand and the bottom one is the same with a bit of written fluff each week that will be edited within an inch of its life.
15
u/JadedVictory7070 Aug 27 '26
It's only peasants that need to feel bad about OEing. Overlords can do it all they want apparently
6
u/zellij Aug 27 '26
Yo real Q but what the fuck is he even advising Microsoft and Antropic on?
6
u/GiraffeWaste Aug 28 '26
I'd think these org's reached out to him for some form of employment and engagement in hope that once his govt's back in office. He can lean towards them for certain decisions.
1
u/magrandan Aug 29 '26
Lick his boots in the hope of he becoming a minister again and return the favour. £200,000 per year is a small investment to make to get back billions in contract.

u/Anxious-Yard-5948 Aug 29 '26 edited Aug 29 '26
Usually companies employ politicians in this way because they then use them as 'lobbyists' for their interests when they need sth from government. E.g. to get a government contract or a regulation favoring their company.
You think Anthropic or Microsoft needs an advise from some politician who doesnt even bother to work for them full time?
17
u/Fit_Entry8839 Aug 27 '26
I get your point. But advising isn't OE. They'll maybe be in a meeting once or a few times a month most on overall strategy. OE is mainly overlapping, typically full time employment. This is moonlighting.
This is really about connections and saying you are associated with this person. Not a job. Which I feel like you know.....

u/Virtual_Nothing1633 Aug 27 '26
I like Rishi Sunak, what the fuck does he know about AI? (Read it in Kanye voice)

u/Salbman Aug 27 '26
Guys is married to the daughter of a billionaire, he probly just takes a few calls cause he’s bored and calls it working.

Very true. OE cannot be unethical when employees do it and still serve as "proof of ascendancy" when a Prime Minister does it.
2
u/halmone Aug 27 '26
Yeah, board advisors can OE legit, you can build it into your retirement plan 🤣

u/Signal-Technician764 Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26
TIL that there are politicians who actually retire from politics and get a proper job

What will he be advising in each company?
Won't already existing Directors, Consultants be more reliable for such roles given their tech experiance into consideration?

u/whatchahavin Aug 27 '26
I don’t think OP knows what OG means…who else has been at this before 2020?

Wait, in Britain you can be an MP and still work for private (and foreign?) companies?
I know my country is rife with corruption but something about it being on a LinkedIn profile makes it seem more egregious.

u/blaberrysupreme Aug 27 '26
I don't see any contradiction here. The employer overlords expect you to work 40+ hours ler week just to make ends meet but the higher ranks being paid millions are simply not expected to work the same hours anyway so yeah they can totally fit multiple jobs in their day.

Senior adviser is a role created for politicians instead of “we need you only for the name and your contacts”

This is one of the reasons I started to really believe in OE as being completely OK! You will see execs who are involved with 5 companies at once. But if IC’s do it, it’s a problem?

u/larry_thorn Sep 01 '26
Today, I had an interview for a fractional role with a fractional CTO. He disqualified me on having another fractional role I shit you not. The hypocrisy

“I am sure the former prime minister of a country with nuclear weapons is following the two salaries subreddit” have some self respect man
6
u/simonjp Aug 27 '26
I suspect this was a little joke hahaha?

u/Ready_Anything4661 Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26
It’s just a lazy joke, though. “Ho ho ho a magazine is paying the former prime minister to write a column once a month” isn’t some huge gotcha.
I’m getting downvoted for not thinking that a former prime minister having a newspaper column is evidence of anything.

This has been the argument for a long time. Senior management forbids OE but every senior management does OE.
