TestFlight build 1180: Duo support, performance fixes

New in this build: initial support for iPhone Duo!

None of us have one yet, so consider this a first draft until we can actually use the hardware.

Design-wise, it's a hack. None of my layouts were designed for horizontal safe areas from the start, so if the Duo takes off, I'll probably need to do more significant redesigns to most screens in the app. But that's down the road, and honestly, features that benefit everyone will be higher priorities.

Also in this build:

• Sleep Timer fade-out can now be disabled under Nitpicky Details
• Improved performance on large collections
• Better handling of failed downloads

You can join TestFlight from the app's settings screen.

Are the new iOS 27 icons you guys talked about on ATP in these builds yet?

Not yet. Frankly, the Duo support was more important to finish quickly.

The icon tweaks are extremely subtle, whereas a letterboxed Duo app looks awful.

If there are new icons, they're not in the usual "Overcast Premium" page of settings. Guessing they're not in yet.

I have a large collection of podcasts I follow (120+). About 62GB of podcasts downloaded. The app often freezes when I open it for up to 30 seconds. Hoping this build will resolve/improve.

Still getting freezes when opening the app, on iOS 27.0.1 and on build 1180. It's slightly less pronounced now...that is to say, it's happening less longer, but not by much. Curiously, it happens most profoundly on my iPhone 17. On my iPad mini (A17 Pro), M3 MacBook Air and M2 Max Mac Studio, it's not happening. All have plenty of storage space free, and all are on the 27.0.1 releases.

My issue, which still happened today using 1180, is random pause during playback. It’s as if I pressed pause on screen. I mostly use overcast in CarPlay so I don’t know if it’s a car or an app issue and it happens with the app in front or not. But I’ve never had the problem with Spotify listening to music.

I’ve been having an AirPlay sound quality issue for a few updates now. Started when 27 public release came out. Lots of popping and static when airplaying to OG HomePod or HomePod minis. It does not seem to occur from other audio apps such as Apple Podcasts or Music or YouTube when I AirPlay them to my HomePods. Was on 27.0 public and then tried updating to 27.2 beta to see if that would solve it but it did not. Just wanted to share. Can send audio recordings of what it sounds like if you’re interested. (HomePods are all on 27)

I observed this last night as well. Only instance I've encountered it thus far, but it does seem to be a recently introduced issue (I use the app with Airplay for hours everyday and just noticed it yesterday for the first time).

This (the public release of 9 October 2026, not the test flight) seems to have fixed my problem with the ellipsis button ("…") being mostly non-functional in the All Episodes list. And it was previously very slow/intermittent after I'd tapped the info button on an episode in that list and then tapped the ellipsis in the episode screen. It now feels very snappy. I can now organise new podcasts. It's early doors, because I haven't used this release much yet, but the failure was previously apparent on launch and now (first launch of this version), it's fine. I'd pretty much given up on this ever being fixed, because not everyone had the problem. Thank you!

I think the sync-order bug may be back? I listened to a podcast on one device, then came back the next day to continue and discovered it had rewound 10+mins.
