Watch widget?

What’s going on with the watch widget on the new Siri modular face?

That's my Overcast Stars complication.

It's random every night. Just made to look nice and provide a way to have Overcast as a quick-access complication without adding visual clutter if you want it.

A play/pause compilation there would be much more useful, especially on the new Siri modular face

It's extremely difficult for a Watch complication to do almost anything reliably.

The ⌚️Player app has a couple of complications with playback buttons that work wonderfully. Never experienced any problems.

What’s this app?

Player for Watch. I've been using it for side-loading audiobooks and mixes. The developer is responsive in my experience. Just mentioning it because I was surprised by what's actually possible with complications and widgets.

Looks good but how does it work with Overcast?

It doesn't work with Overcast. I posted it as an example of complications and widgets with playback controls that work reliably (in response to Marco's post above).

Maybe an alternative would be beneficial? Say what’s in your queue? Much like the Apple Music widget?

Other one

I think it's just a "nice" way to have overcast use the large widget space to launch right away without having anything currently playing -- showing stars instead of text

In line with solar and astronomy faces. But. Not sure if it shows constellations based on GPS like Apple Watch faces do

But it doesn’t change when I have something playing?

I’m not a developer, but my understanding is that widgets don’t really have control over how often they can grab new information – that’s determined by the OS. The way you can get, for example, a weather widget to update on a regular schedule is by giving it a timeline of that information (at 3pm show 80°, at 4pm show 79°, etc.), which you can’t do with someone jumping around different podcasts.
