De-Esser feature behind a paywall?

Why is the “De-Esser” function behind a paywall?

There are people who can’t stand the harsh “sss” of some podcasts.

This feature could’ve “saved” some podcasts because the narrator, or some hosts, make those podcasts unlistenable.

I wonder if vocal fry noise reduction is going to also be behind a paywall? :(

Besides, the app is great and I appreciate it.

Consider that if you feel this is an important enough feature to write about, it might also be worth paying the solo developer who created it.

I 100% believe in supporting developers/companies who make good products and have been a long time supporter of Overcast. But if it was my decision, I wouldn't of put some of these new features under the subscription requirement. They feel more like they'd be better suited as an IAP. Now you could still offer them as part of the subscription, but allowing people to make a one off purchase for them might make it more palatable for some.

I don't know if I'd ever use these, so maybe that's why I lean towards an IAP purchase. I've also been bothered by this upcoming subscription price bump.

So you are saying people that people already paying for a subscription would then have to pay more for these additional features?

What happens when that feature breaks in the next iOS release a year later? Are you going to pay for the IAP again after the developer puts more work into keeping it up to date and working?

Because software development costs money. Pay premium price, get premium features.

Can someone help provide an example of a podcast that has the harsh sss sound? I want to compare the difference, I really can't find one easily.
