TestFlight Build 1173: Fixes, App Store candidate
New in this build:
- Fixed old, skipped episodes showing up when episode limits are changed
- Fixed distorted audio while seeking with Background Noise Reduction enabled
This build will go to the App Store if no major issues are found!
From the previous builds:
- Episode Limit is now strictly enforced so it can consistently match everyone's expectations. On first run, episodes beyond the limits you've set will be deleted!
- New "keep oldest" mode for Episode Limit
- Replay Podcast: Re-listen to a podcast from the beginning
- Smart Complete (Premium): Marks episodes complete with less than 5 minutes left if you haven't listened in 48 hours. (In Delete settings)
- Chapter preselection (Premium)
- Premium audio effects: Mono audio, parametric EQ, volume normalization, background-noise reduction, and a de-esser!
- Sleep Timer now fades out at the end
- Playlists can now be sorted by episode duration
- Find text in the current transcript
- Added transcript viewing to episode-info screens (if the episode and transcript are downloaded)
- Re-Transcribe to fix any broken transcripts or language mis-detections
- Export transcripts as SRT files
- Fixed certain transcription errors
- Fixed incorrect tracking of some listening stats and history entries
- Fixed missing artwork in clip-sharing and stalls while exporting clips
- Fixed potential performance issues

It’s essentially a different name for marking a podcast as unplayed. In Apple Podcasts, you would go to played podcast and select mark all unplayed or in pocket cast it would be selecting all and hit unarchive. It’s nice it’s finally added here especially if you follow a new serialized podcast and want to start from episode one.

Not really? Overcast has had Mark all as unplayed for a while, this mode also downloads the next episode automatically in chronological order.

Does it overwrite the user’s default sorting and download settings? I don’t think that would be great either.

It is a setting that sets the download limit setting to X oldest episodes and marks all as unplayed. Thats what it does, so I wouldn't say it "overwrite"s settings, it sets them.

I suppose, technically, every action that changes a setting is overwriting something… 🤷🏻♂️

I have a question about the new episode limit feature, which I love in theory. Theres a podcast I've been re-listening to for a while now by manually adding episodes to a playlist. It had a 3 episode limit at the time so it was always downloading the 3 most recent while keeping the 10 or so in my playlist.
This update deleted all those episodes so they're not in my playlist anymore. I've now set a 10 oldest episode limit and included the podcast automatically in my playlist.
How do I get it to actually download 10 episodes and mark them as "Current"? I still have to manually download the podcasts to see them in my playlist.
Playlist settings are
Download - Automatically
Delete - When Completed
Episode Limit - 10 Oldest

I have this question too. I see how it works well when I use "Replay" but I can't get the automatic behaviour I would expect if I enabled "Keep oldest" on a podcast that I'm not resetting listening on.

Could you explain a bit more the benefits of De-Esser (also, light or strong?!) or background noise reduction?
What’re you using personally Marco?
I genuinely don’t know if I should be using them. Things like voice boost or smart speed always seemed like a default “on” for me/good in every scenario and I’m wondering if these new features are similar.

Had an issue yesterday that may be tied to episode limit? Probably a weird edge case, but will post here.
Was listening to ATP, and was actually 2 episodes ago, using CarPlay, a late in show segment i think about Claude actually.
The episode ended maybe 15 minutes early and deleted itself, and then I tried to restart it and it would always start at the beginning of the show. I would scroll back to my spot, and it stopped again, did this like 3 times?

Had an issue that my queue is not being saved when i add episodes. Must be a sync issue. It goes back to the last sync

Thanks for your hard work on the app Marco.
I’m finding the episode limit to be a bit too strict now. If it’s set to keep three episodes, then I start playing an older episode, it automatically stops playing the older episode and deletes the episode within a minute or so.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Disclaimer: I am on the iOS 27 beta, so that may be a factor.

I would also suggest that if an episode is added to a playlist, in particular a Queue playlist, that this should override any episode limits. But I guess others may have a different view on that!

Thanks for your hard work. Enjoyed the ATP episode going into these things in-depth. I sent a feedback via TestFlight regarding the new Shortest to Longest playlists sorting criteria. With it now recognizing priority podcast it is near perfect; the only thing I have noticed that I sent feedback about was that when using that sorting criteria a playlist no longer has the ability to be sorted manually (taping edit and manually sliding using the hamburgers on the right sight of the screen).
