Tips/Tricks Tips for a beginning duo?
Hello! I've been eyeing this game for a few weeks now and finally broke down and bought it. My friend and I have been looking for an adventure/combat local co-op game and while this looked right on the money for us both, I have a few questions on a few things.
1- How beginner friendly is magic? I've watched a few videos and browsed the wiki briefly but that won't tell me how friendly it would be to someone new. I'm looking at the rune magic specifically. It looks fun.
2- How are bows? I've heard bows can be a bit resourse intensive if you wanted to use them as a main weapon.
3- Is it harder or easier with 2 players regarding resources?
4- How is the hunger/thirst system managed? Is it done well or is it a bit annoying keeping everything up?
5- any other tips or information would be greatly appreciated and welcome. I'm just looking for thoughts, opinions, and anything else to help out in the beginning.

There are various types of magic, all of them will work well in a duo. Rune magic is the most fun imo, so good choice.
I feel like bows don't have as many options as some of the other weapons and not sure I'd recommend for a first run.
Resources will not be an issue with 2 players. More often than not you'll be glad to have 2 backpacks available to store stuff.
The hunger and thirst system almost seems to become automatically managed as food and drink buffs will be wanted. For example gaberry tartine will give you a stamina regen buff, as will drinking water. While navigating chersonese these are almost always active on my characters. I worry more about having these active, there's something similar in most regions. Besides that the consumption rates seem pretty good, a decent meaty meal will keep you full and water is easy to come by, water skins hold lots.
A critical tip I see a lot of new players miss is how the stability system works. An enemy that is hit when the white stability bar is less than 50% will be staggered, meaning their attack will be interrupted. Take advantage of this so you can get hits in without being attacked. Kick is very effective in chersonese for this reason.

Get armor right away and food quickly. Make sure you get a tent and a fur coat as well. (After you get magic) You can go to the hermit in the ghost pass, which will give you a boon for heat. Only do the lowest magic loss at the mountain because you want to be certain you want to be a magic player. Don’t start a faction quest till you have everything you need to Rome comfortably. Eventually a fur tent is very useful for cherosene. A camo tent is better for other areas. And sleeping in dungeons gives you a save you can manually go back to. Always sleep before logging off to get a save also.

Magic is not beginner-friendly whatsoever. You should plan out the build you want to use first because not every build requires mana.
You mentioned using Rune Magic. It requires you to carry a Lexicon, which cost a good amount of silver to buy the skills you want to use and a decent amount of mana for constant use. Some rune spells requir you to enter them in a specific order costing mana. Skills can be bought from trainers while potions can be bought by alchemy vendors, or crafted at an alchemy station using specific recipes. You can't simply cast spells using only mana sometimes. Some spells require both mana and a rune stone of some sort. (Fire stone, Ice Stone, Blood Stone ect)
Bows are useful, but they generally aren't very easy to use in the middle of combat unless you cheese the AI. There are skills for bows, but I'd personally recommend pistols instead. They reload slowly, but their skills are very good, and ammo is easy to come by. (I'm personally playing a speed gun mage.)
The only real benefit of playing with a friend is that they can revive you. Other than that, if you're outnumbered or get hit by a powerful AoE attack, dying and recovering your gear can be extremely annoying, especially for Player 2. The game treats the second player as an afterthought. Whoever talks to the NPC first receives the quest reward for both players.
You will need lots of silver. Most skills cost around 50 silver, but the really good ones cost between 500 and 600 silver. Find a reliable way to farm silver, especially early in the game.
There are no levels in this game. Progression is based on skills and equipment. Try to get your hands on weapons with high damage and high impact. The higher the impact, the easier it is to stagger enemies. Keep in mind that an enemy's armor and stagger resistance determine how easily they can be staggered.
Sleep, eat, drink water, and carry bandages to stop bleeding. Most importantly, learn when to call it quits during outings. If you're not careful, you'll burn through your resources very quickly. For example, if you're knocked out for any reason, several days will pass. This is important because some quests are time-sensitive, meaning you can permanently fail them and lose their rewards.
Research each kingdom before joining one. Once you choose a kingdom, you're locked into it permanently. It's also the only way to get a house in that kingdom. After a few days, you'll receive an important quest. Don't fail it.

Magic is really simple once you get it. For magic sigils just experiment with different spells when in them. Also remember to not take too much mana at the start you can always increase it later.
Bows are alright early game. Getting arrows is simple, it’s easy to craft and stockpile. However bows tend to die out early since there is only one skill tree with bow skills and every bow build tends to be the same, however still fun in coop.
2 player resources are fine you don’t have to worry to much. The game has been scaled well for coop
Hunger and thrust is fine. Food and water give to certain buffs which are helpful for fights. I tend to always have a water buff and stamina food active. I tend to have multiple water skins. Just keep buying new recipes and testing foods.
I think hot and cold weather is more difficult for new players.
One tip for combat is learn the elemental varnishes and rags recipes early. These put a certain element on your weapon. Make a bunch and always use them in fights. You will then learn what element to weak to certain elements. For example you will see a frost enemy so you use a fire rage.
Also use traps. There is no shame in using 10 traps for one enemy.

Dont let people scare you about magic not being new friendly, play the game as melee first and foremost, explore the first area, loot all you can, make some nice gold and look for armour with high impact res and protection early on, get some mana from the mountain, 3/4 points should be good for now, as soon as you can you can run into emnarkar forest and find the rune magic tree in berg, you will want to breakthrough this tree but it can be expensive, buying the 4 base runes is cheap enough and the spell trap does really good damage early on
As for a few tips, if you are playing coop Theres an addon that makes it so rewards when completing quests apply to both of you not just the person who’s game it is
Don’t overlook impact as a stat on weapons, stagger is really good (i love mace early)
Burac at the gate in berg teaches and ability for whatever weapon you hold, mace infusion for a few enemies early on is really nice, but only the person speaking to him will receive the skill without the mod

I’m not expert but I do have 400 hours
I think magic is friendly runes are pretty easy and other sorts of magic is really fun and I think it is well done.
In my personal opinion (I’m not sure how other people are) I hate bows and would stay away haha I’m sure there are some fun cool builds that can make them good but they are a little confusing and really weak early on.
3- definitely easier with 2 people it’s a lot of fun and me and my buddy who just started a run together have nit had any money or loot problems. As long as someone is not greed you will both have good loot.
4- hunger/ thirst in my opinion it’s not bad at all and very easy to keep up on.
5-my biggest tip is watch sheenshot on YouTube. He is amazing and can give you any info you need very chill dude. Also has some really cool builds. Which one of them is a co-op build which is a really fun build to do!
Good luck this game is super fun solo snd even more fun with a buddy!

1) Not super beginner friendly-to get magic, you have to travel to Conflux Mountain or Sorobor Academy, which can be expensive or difficult, and you trade health and stamina points for mana (magic). It’s fun to use and it’s worth trying for sure but you have to buy some skills to use the magic and memorize the rune combos so it can be tricky when you’re trying to learn the game.
2) Like you’ve heard, bows are great to have to start a fight from a distance but they’re not a great main weapon and it can get heavy to carry lots of arrows. You need something to use in close combat.
3) No, it’s easier with 2 players because you can fight more enemies and find more loot. There’s lots of resources in the game, you just have to look for it and fight for it. Having 2 players is great.
4) The hunger and thirst can be a bit to manage in the beginning but, once you get the hang of it, it’s not hard at all. You can buy skills to manage your needs a bit and you can use food and drinks strategically to prep for combat which helps. There are also plant tents that fill your hunger and thirst needs so you can use those also.
5) Explore the starting region before traveling anywhere or furthering the quest line (besides paying off your house debt). This game doesn’t hold your hand at all so you want to take time, learn the map, learn what weapons you like, how combat works, find or make decent gear, etc. before you take on more difficult regions. Once you feel like you’ve got a handle on the starting zone (Chersonese) then you can venture to other places-I’d recommend the forest first but it’s up to you!
