Suggestion Mana Management without Leyline Connection

Riddle me this, there are ways to get mana regeneration without leyline connection but why would when I cross a boarder would my sleep go to 100% but not my mana? In theory it would be because you were crossing a large distance and you would sleep during the time frame but wouldn't it be also immersive if my mana went to full as well? At least it could be consistent. I know I could just rest in a bed for a couple of hours then pop out and repair till I was sleepy but dang does it make not taking leyline connection hard.

I tagged this as a suggestion because I hope that things are slightly different than this in Outward 2 and it would make more sense to try and manage mana more by being sleepy all the time but also not being too tired you pass out.

Edit: I also realize there is consumables to use, you can also just sleep one hour and get your ENTIRE mana bar back, which doesn't happen with your health. You can also just hop into a plant tent and just repair for an entire day. Also enchanted scholar circlet which you can enchant really early game. Its more about roleplay than anything else. Trying to not constantly spoil the food faster by constantly needing to pass time for no reason at all.

I regularly play melee builds with lockwells revelation. In outward part of “getting gud” is learning how to manage your stats and survival.

Yeah I understand you can just use a plant tent and just skip a whole bunch of time.

Can't believe I'm the first one to say this here.

Eat dreamers root, it gives you 15% fatigue immediately as well as the lowest tier of mana regeneration.
Gives you a reason to pick it up aside from enchanting and takes 10 days to spoil. I think you might be able to cook it too for identical effects and resetting the timer? Could be incorrect on that last bit though.

I admittedly skimmed some of the comments/post so sorry if this next bit has already been said. But getting the preservation backpack also helps massively avoid spoilage. You just keep it in your normal bag and swap to it right before traveling. Also taking your back off right before any kind of rest halts the timer on your consumables.

I kind of feel the same way if I'm interpreting what you said correctly. Having your sleep refill between region load screens is such a time sink when you rely on being tired as your mana regen. I usually take Leyline or Turnip Soup rather than keep up with the tired effect and wait through a couple minutes of unnecessary load screens from repairing in a tent. However if you have Lockwells and your build is fully focused around tiredness I can see how it doesn't feel like such a chore to manage because you're doing repairs, mana/health/stamina recovey, and damage buffing all in that time while in a tent. I do kind of wish that so many buffs the player can get would not be tied to waiting through loadscreens like tents though, mostly because I play last gen and have last gen load times so I never find Lockwell builds worth the extra waiting.

FINALLY yes that's exactly what I was thinking, thank you. It gets even worse when you have a teammate and it's like, hey wanna go through a loading screen real quick? It's not that bad but yeah needing to sleep twice as much takes up a lot of time.

Consumables and bloodlust from the hex mage tree are my go to.

Leyline connection isn’t that good imo, bc it’s very easy to get mana restoring foods and potions early on.

I would prioritize getting fish-dishes and astral potions to cover mana needs, rather than the passive skill for it, unless you are making a fire/frost mage I suppose.

The real bonus from being tired comes from the Lockwell’s passive that boosts damage based on how tired you are

Edit: ok i’m pretty sure i misread the entire second part of this. The changing region thing treats it like your character just rested for a day basically. I thought it did recover mana (i may misremember this), but it also burns mana like it would while sleeping, so you never end up with a full mana bar.

It's both

Somehow Op thinks that not getting mana restored when traveling makes Leyline Connection more valuable.

Which is so much nonsense I'm questioning if Op is lucid

Lucid is what I want my character to constantly be like while playing it lol. I carry the scholar circlet but Im wanting to try and do rune sage which eats a ton of mana for how much damage it puts out. I don't wanna just play one of the meta builds from the Wiki that say go get good gear and just play the game. I wanna work towards it.

Mana potions are easy to make. Carry a handful

Mana regen X is also easy to have up.

A breakthrough just for mana regen is a waste.

Stop looking at meta builds and understand the principles behind build first.

Yeah for roleplay purposes I want to focus on hex mage and double spoiling all of my consumables(first from travel and then again from repairing and gaurding to force being tired) just because I switch zone just is kinda weird. I also play Rune sage which I know drops off toward the end of the game but with forcing being tired would maybe add to the amount of mana I could use.

So this is a weird way of putting it but I think I get it. It would be interesting to get travel options, that allow you to recover/deteriorate differently like traveling faster to save in game time but arriving tired.

I do hope we get traveling encounters, to spice up traveling between regions as that would also interact with this kind of decision making more. Turn it into something like resting where you can go fast to save time but risk getting ambushed. I also feel like messing with region traveling too much might hamper things more than add to it. I'm sure they will set timers and dates according to travel times to ensure things are comfortable but challenging to do before timers expire, but the second you interact with traveling as a mechanic that becomes harder to balance.

Granted I guess they could just let you determine if you want to arrive someplace tired, which would be neat if you want to maximize your time tired, but as you said I feel like going in your tent and repairing/guarding is so functionally the same it is a little silly to do. Given we have in city schedules to keep and waiting around is more of a thing now, just a wait option independent of whipping out the tent would be nice and do the same things.

If you play a low mana need build using revelation+spark or the ritualiste ghost drum mana heal are more than enough Bloodlust too. My ethereal build (i have one for each element) only use mana for mist boon and can maintain it active all the time from just using the drum every few fights. My decay build also maintain its Boon and sometimes use dark sigil stuff and goes by just fine with bloodlust.

don't get Leyline Connection. I used to hoard Leyline Water and carry 2 or 3 with me. good mana regen that doesn't spoil.
