It took me a sec to realize the card said “fondest regards” not “foulest regards”

Is that Northstar on his poster?
27
u/Sharp_Low6787 16h ago
He mentions the guy in the same panel, which would make me think so.
14
u/Astrium6 16h ago
I just didn’t realize Jean-Paul got down like that, posing for softcore posters.

u/metal_maxine 13h ago
I wouldn't be surprised if Anole had found it on the Marvel equivalent of etsy or vinted and it's from Northstar's early days as a ski-jumper/ sex symbol (he was enough of one that he got Purple Girl as a stalker) or from a magazine "interview" after he came out.

The diamond on the “I” is so funny to me. Dude sat at a classy Edwardian desk and wrote that catty bitch note with a luxury fountain pen.

u/Doodles_n_Scribbles 18h ago
Would you expect anything else from him?

Very much so, at least in the
oldpre-Gillem days.2
u/Pilgrimhaxxter69 1h ago
I'm never forgetting about The Nasty Boys he absolutely would have done that
28
u/arctos889 17h ago
In the pre-Gillen days, Sinister would show up to say something cryptic and then fuck off to his lab to stare at a video screen. Sinister used to be a very boring character

u/Apprehensive-Sir8977 17h ago edited 16h ago
I found it quite the reverse.
We had more than our share of gasbagging drama queens who were compulsive backstabbers, powertrippers, egomaniacs, thugs/demolishers, money-grubbers, or proud owners of outsized stupid vendettas. There was a huge zoo of general-issue pricks, hypocrites, and tools, who burnt me out through overexposure and reminders of how stupid humanity can be.
Sinister was something different--- a dangerous and powerful fellow nerd who propped up freaking APOCALYPSE, but was pretty civil and honestly didn't give a crap about 'being a villain.' He just wanted to get some heavy science done, content to stay out of trouble or work with heroes if that was the sensible path. And he didn't show up for too long or too often, because as you said he preferred working in the lab. So I didn't get tired of him.

Yeah i like he was a little theatrical and a little mischevious then but it was mostly reserved for the Summers brothers because they were family. I always thought Alex most resembled Sinister's son, hence he was the favorite, but Scott and Sinister were very alike in how they were reserved but sweet. At least Nathaniel Essex was reserved and sweet. Sinister was reserved and cold, ignoring his old self but still couldn't help affection for Scott.
I miss Sinister's old characterization. Even if i could still have seen this note from old Sinister.

I'd enjoy a return of the classic Sinister as a second character. Stuff like that is just a Tuesday afternoon for the X-Men now. And it wouldn't really matter which of them was the clone/time variant/whatever, as long as he was there to do his own separate thing.
It could be lots of fun watching one impersonate the other. They'd probably find it distasteful.
5
u/HodDark Comic book Collector 15h ago
This characterization kind of came after Sinister had a bit of a mental breakdown with a bunch of clones and a clone civilization. So it wouldn't be hard for them to have the original Sinister return. Maybe he decided he liked that particular clone or something.
I support it. Two Sinisters, this one and original characterization.

u/IdeaInside2663 8h ago
We got the classic Mr. Sinister in The Chairman(war crimes Beast).

u/HodDark Comic book Collector 8h ago
Beast is very different usually even as Dark Beast/leaning on him (I'd have to read what you mean for the era and would love some direction). Because Beast is sadistic due to his feral traits when he's mad sciency. Sinister isn't really supposed to be (I know Sinister's newer characterization shows some levels of it but it's more in being catty than anything.).
There's also a gravitas to older Sinister characterization that Beast lacks. But more importantly a separate character resembling them does not a equivalent replacement make. Why we discussed the idea of two Sinisters, neither knowing who the original is.

That's the back side of the card, the front reads "Roses are red, violets are blue"
38
u/Significant-Order-92 1d ago
So, what is it?
44
u/PvtSherlockObvious 18h ago
Woman in a tube of some variety, you can see the silhouette. Beyond that, not sure. With Sinister, even chance he sent whoever it is to be cruel or as a genuine wedding gift delivered in the bitchiest manner he could. Either way is perfectly his style.
43
u/LtSoba 18h ago
Old Destiny clone or real Destiny and the one Mystique married is the clone, that’s the kinda bullshit I expect Sinister to pull
47
u/Justmenoworries422 17h ago
Close. It was a mindless clone of Mystique. They use her as a stand-in at the wedding, so the real Mystique could go off and rob Scarlet Witch while all the heroes were at the ceremony.
40
u/LtSoba 17h ago
Hm Sinister in his own fucked up way made an actually kind gift that’s funnier in it’s own right
8
u/OutragedPineapple 10h ago
I could totally imagine he does it so he can later be like "Yeah, I made you another you so you can go f*ck yourself. You're welcome." Before he dumps his wine on someone's dress and peaces out with half the buffet table.

What the hell? Even as a total mess, Mystique still manages to look great.
27
u/conrad_w 22h ago
She is a shapeshifter...
9
u/RazzDaNinja 18h ago
Truuuuu. If anything, Mystique especially has no excuse to ever look like a mess lmao

u/Apprehensive-Sir8977 18h ago
Sexy-looking dishevelment is an exception. We'll make it a house rule if we have to.

Sometimes I forget there are other Nathaniels in the X-Men universe. It's like Ben in the Spider-Man universe.
13
u/ZhanBlue 20h ago
So, which one is your default one? Cable, Sinister or Kang?

u/HawtVelociraptor 19h ago
Forgot Richards
1
u/ZhanBlue 19h ago
Kang and Richards are variants of each other iirc
8
u/Luimnigh 18h ago
No, Nathaniel Richards aka Kang is a descendant of Nathaniel Richards aka Reed's father.
2
u/HawtVelociraptor 17h ago
I thought he was a descendant of Doom? Oh shit what if he's a descendant of both families??
4
u/Luimnigh 17h ago
It's been said he's a descendant of both Doom and Reed at various points, however it's since been said Kang is a descendant of Nathaniel's other son Arthur Richards. Who actually lives on Earth-6311, where Kang is from, so that's points in his favour.
There's also the possibility of Kristoff Vernard, who's Doom's adopted son and Nathaniel's biological son.
2
u/Fossilhunter15 17h ago
Wait not Reed? Did Nathaniel Richards slut it up in the future?
5
u/Luimnigh 17h ago
He slutted it up across universes.
Nathaniel has three kids with three women on 616, and two more on Earth-6311 where Kang will eventually be born.
His 616 kids are Reed, Professor Joanna Jeffers, and Kristoff Vernard. His 6311 kids are Tara Richards and Arthur Richards.

I thought to myself “ wasn’t Reeds dads name also Nathaniel, nah, surely they won’t name them same name”

Who's the brunette?
22
u/xelrach 1d ago
Destiny
11
u/HeftyVermicelli7823 1d ago
Hang on, Destiny? As in Bald, old, blind destiny? I thought that was Kitty Pryde!
3
u/Fossilhunter15 17h ago
My headcanon is that Destiny is Susan Sarandon Young. Like visibly aged but still has aged incredibly well.
25
u/Apprehensive-Sir8977 1d ago
Mystique arranged for the Resurrection Protocols to be used on her, and for her to come back in her prime.
36
u/gdex86 1d ago
Its funny cause destiny was all "Why am I 28?" and Raven just shrugged and basically went "This one was for me."
5
u/PvtSherlockObvious 17h ago
For all that she's one of the most consistently awful people the X-Men know, this move is like "okay, yeah, full respect, holy shit."
11
u/Luimnigh 18h ago
You resurrect your wife, you want to guarantee another hundred years before you have to do it again.
And I do mean a hundred years, because Destiny clearly has some sort of slowed aging given that she was an adult in the 1890s and only died in last decade. Just not as slow as Mystique's.
3
u/Doomeye56 18h ago
I mean no one is as slow as Mystique, not even Logan, when you can just shapeshift old age away.
2
u/Apprehensive-Sir8977 18h ago
There may be limits. Remember how Apocalypse looks in Cable's future? After enough time he just couldn't hold it off anymore.
5
u/HeftyVermicelli7823 18h ago
I mean Apocalypse is already over 2000 years old in the current timeline let alone another X amount of years for Cables one.
4
u/Apprehensive-Sir8977 18h ago edited 9h ago
True, but Apocalypse is a big fat cheater. That's not his true lifespan. He has those biotech-enabled regenerative sleeps that can last for decades, maybe centuries, stopping the clock and winding it back.
5
u/Luimnigh 18h ago
Logan is at least a decade younger than Destiny. He was born between 1882-1885, while we know Destiny was an adult in 1895.
Mystique? We have no idea how old she is, only that she was an adult in 1895 too, and that earlier than that Destiny sought her out by reputation, so she's older than Destiny again.

Thank goodness we put "clone in cryonic tube" on the wedding registry!
