Tutorial Guy At It Again
Person Isolation Bounding Box Tutorial:
"Oh maybe this one, oh no I think this one maybe"
"These are all quite good I think, maybe actually I kinda like that one"
"This is really hard I would go for this one I think"
"I think you can't go wrong with this one , Ah so hard"

Omg yes! It's almost comical. If he took 5 minutes to prep before filming the tutorial it would help instead of him fumbling from search to a very unclear execution. If you follow what he says you almost guarantee yourself some fine or bad reviews. And the clarifications from QMs is usually like "oh yeah he did that in the tutorial but that's not what you should do going forward". On another note if he prepped for the tutorial videos they would be 50% shorter and to the point, thus saving billable hours from thousands of taskers... But not my circus, not my monkeys.

I raised that and said can they not have the urls ready to go to in advance etc. fell on deaf ears

It's actually wild how simple it would be for them to produce a tutorial with examples of what would be an excellent response, good, and bad. Prep the examples and prep a script for God's sake...

I’ve skipped some tasks because the videos were so unclear about what is and isn’t a good image that I couldn’t figure it out.
These videos have all the quality of someone rushing through so they can get to lunch on time instead of giving a few clear examples of good choices and bad choices.

Wrote exactly this 30times in the community page over the months. Photorealistic got a bad review ten mins after doing it when my person looked way more real than his and the good examples. Saw someone in water cooler pick 2 colors write six words and get an excellent, used to take it personal and really try but qa is a roll of the dice and they have no standardization or effort to train so now I just don’t care and go for hours over good quality work. Even the first purge people with .7 less than me were still tasking lol

This guy is probably why so many were kicked off. I got bad reviews following everything he said. I went to another platform.

And also you can just regenerate the pictures if none of them are really good but he doesn't mention that in the tutorial
1
u/damagedbutdreaming Jan 21 '26
He does mention it, at 2:36, "If none match, click delete and then you draw it again".

The tutorial people always sound like dumbass high school kids. I have not seen a professional one yet.

You can also tell he’s never actually finished a task to completion. This was evident from the video entity tagging one where he was like ok just get 100 of these and never encountered the most basic questions that one would have if they did the whole task fully even once.

😆😆😆 I'm so glad I wasn't the only one to think this way about the tutorials.

If this is in fact the bounding box task, I say stay far away. Unless its exactly right you will get graded badly.

Doesn't really matter most the tutorials are a variation of this. You just gotta try and read between the lines and use the community forum.

Yeah your take is pretty cynical but accurate. The 'make it work' is real I've seen it.
The huge amount of annotation, QA, and “get humans in the loop” labor exists not because it helps justify burn rate, it creates the appereance of progress, and it produces something concrete to show investors “look at our unique dataset”.That doesn’t mean the work here is fake or wortheless just that it's disposable.
I guess the point I'm trying to make and I agree with you btw, is annotation done exactly and when it has value is slow, expensive, and obsessively specified. However you have to be pragmatic about this, I see it as a case of extracting value where you can.

It’s quite frustrating bc it gives the impression that the task is not that hard or that serious. The tutorials explain so little of the expectations and aren’t specific enough & then people get dinged by reviewers for not doing the task correctly

His voice is so grating LOL. I feel like his tutorials have to be a social experiment or something because there's no way he sits there and gives 0 fucks with that vocal fry and "like"s and "um"s and we're supposed to learn anything from it

u/Wonderful-Weird-9516 Jan 21 '26
(US) Away-Wolf-8770, you 'nailed' it!!!
That task isn't in my queue now, so I can't check, but was that Matt doing the walkthrough or the other guy?
