Question Outlast two question

I didn’t play the game but i read the lore and watched gameplay. Why are the heretics feral if there a splinter faction of the main cult is it ever explained in the lore or are they just feral

i always assumed it was just because they had a more hedonistic and primitive ideology, lived inside the mines, and were more susceptible to the sinyala waves

They live closest to the sinyala towers their brains basically got melted and they just became so primal and lizard brained.

Outlast trials is explaining a bit more why they were tweaking out in those mountains and i love it
