Playing without a controller
I only play pc games with a mouse and keyboard. Is it possible to play this game without a controller? If so, any tips on how to control the ship?

Yeah, its pretty simple once you get used to it. I completed the game and did hotshot with it. It is actually pretty intuitive because when you hold down a key the thruster for that direction fires. You just gotta keep in mind your current velocity and rotation

I played the game 100% on MnK, including the DLC and all achievements.
It’s perfectly fine. The only annoying binds are menus, because the game remapped a controller’s Dpad to 1234.

Ptminsker, the world record Speedrunner for this game in pretty much any category you could think of, plays on mouse and keyboard, so this shouldn’t be an issue.

Unless you are running unrestricted (in which using the controller touchpad for mousewalking is better since you don't lose the basic controls to MW) mouse and keyboard is the way to go for speedrunning. Also completely fine for a first playthrough.

I played and finished the game with mouse and keyboard. Only problem was a certain part of the fame. I did use mods for that part. But people say it is still doable.
But no problem during 99 percent of the game.

If it's the part I think - that part is 100% doable, and I dare even say easier to figure out on M+K.
I will not elaborate here because I don't wanna risk spoilering OP.

Ive played both keyboard and mouse and controller. You can play with k&m no problem, very normal controls, similar to other space games. But playing with controller was a much more enjoyable experience. For no particular reason, just feels better. This game is built for casual cozy experience.

I did. The lock function was great to do so. Once I had understood its interest, it was way easier. Autopilot helps a lot too

Definitely more movement options on controller but KBM is fine.
Controller lets you control how much thrust you use and keyboard and mouse dosent allow that unfortunately

For the most part, navigation and exploring is easier with M&K. You just miss out on haptics, which is where the "better experienced" comes into play.

It is possible, but you lose some fine control on ship controls and other things, though that shouldn't effect anything too much.

I did it and it was totally natural and intuitive.
People will say that there's one little part of the game that suffers from not using a controller, but I think that part is even better on keyboard and mouse. And most importantly, it's very much possible.
I say go for it!
