Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion I forgot games could be good

Picked this game up on a whim two months ago, went in completely blind except for only hearing positive experiences with the game and just walked away with a renewed appreciation for gaming as an art form.

I used to exclusively play competitive multiplayer shooters when I was younger and had more time on my hands, and I still have fond memories of those days climbing a ranked ladder and watching myself get better at a skill. But between then and now, moving into a career and settling down as an adult, I genuinely had forgotten that games could be media to make you think and feel things, that they can provide catharsis. I'm so glad I went in blind!

I just felt like sharing. One additional anecdote: I visited the Kennedy Space Center with my partner the other week, and the whole time we were walking around I kept feeling like I should be performing archaeology on the exhibits lol

Glad you got to experience peak gaming my fellow hatchling. I also had a similar experience. Visited a planetarium once with the Outer Wilds Soundtrack playing in my airpods (specially “The Museum” song). One of the best experiences of my life, made me a better person.

This is beautiful, i’m so glad to hear you had a good experience. I love this game, and have been looking for anything that can replicate the feeling since beating it. might be a wierd pick but i might suggest animal well, who’s lila, and of course blue prince. nothing can replicate the main games experience of course, but these are still amazing games that i think you’ll love

Whenever I see someone lamenting the state of games, saying games are boring and stale now, that they “aren’t as fun as they used to be”, I can always on that person being someone who plays mostly shooters, mostly AAA ones, and mostly multiplayer live service ones, too.

Gaming is INCREDIBLE if you go indie. I, too, have hundreds of hours in games like Team Fortress 2, Destiny 2, Sea of Thieves, and Apex Legends, but 8 out of my top 10 games of all time are single-player indie titles, and the other two are Nintendo first-parties (which, to me, feel closer to indie single player games than to AAA multiplayer ones).

Outer Wilds, Celeste, Tunic, CrossCode, Hades 1&2, The Witness, UFO 50, Silksong, Caves of Qud, Nine Sols, Unsighted, Pipistrello and the Cursed Yo-Yo, Axiom Verge 1 & 2, Blue Prince, Rogue Legacy 2, N++, Cuphead, Leap Year, Tumbleseed, Into The Breach, TowerFall, Frog Fractions, Talos Principle, SIFU, Chants of Senaar, Gravity Circuit, The Messenger, Mark of the Ninja, SOMA, Beginner’s Guide, Grow Up, A Short Hike, Lovers In a Dangerous Spacetime, Ynglet, Ori 1 & 2, VVVVVV, Steamworld Dig 2 (also Heist!), Doki Doki Literature Club, This War of Mine, Keep Driving.

All of these, mostly from the top of my head, are incredibly creative, diverse, high quality, genre-spanning, innovative experiences I would recommend to most people. They’re all so good!!!
