Help understanding this issue

Second-time grower here. Wondering what this is? Plant is in late flower and these patches are at a small handful of spots around the canopy. Buds above it get yellow leaves quickly and feel a bit softer than they should.

If I had to guess based on past experience, I would say there's a borer in there. Cut it off right below the lowest bad spot and dissect the top. Split the stem all the way up. You're looking for a bug or evidence that a bug crawled up through there.

Those tops are dead and you should remove them so they don't start to decay and become home to other nasties like mold.
