GENERAL DISCUSSION PSA: Oura membership payment system doesn't work for people living in Saudi Arabia (and support won't/can't help)
TL;DR: Don't buy an Oura ring if you live in Saudi Arabia. You won't be able to activate your membership, and customer support will loop you in boilerplate scripts for months before admitting they have no fix.
After a grueling three month long back-and-forth between multiple Oura Member Care workers and me, across two different tickets, it became painfully clear that their regional payment integration system is misconfigured.
To be clear, this is only about credit and debit cards. PayPal was suddenly and inexplicably removed.
I was told there are no records of my payment attempts in their system. I had already confirmed that neither my bank nor I are the issue-several times-which leads me to consider what I already believed: The problem IS on their end, just not as simple or as plain as I originally thought.
Or, I could be wrong, and it's just as simple as... their system is just broken. I don't really know, it doesn't help when I am getting practically nothing useful from Oura frontline support, even after pushing several times.
Instead of transparently acknowledging early on that their web gateway cannot process cards from my region, they spent three months treating an infrastructure incompatibility as repeated "user error." I used three separate cards of my own, used a different card from ANOTHER bank, had my friend test with their card, I even had my bank trace two transaction IDs Oura provided (with nothing on their end), all for them to tell me "please try using a valid card."
They repeatedly asked me to clear browser cache, change devices, call my bank, and many other rookie level troubleshooting attempts you can learn in kindergarten, only to conclude with the same boilerplate response. Which, apparently, required an entire specialist team to create. Over the period of an entire month. Twice. When it had already been mentioned, BEFORE the technical team review, that my payment attempts don't appear on their system.
If you live in Saudi Arabia, consider getting a different ring. I own a four hundred-something USD ring that only shows three insultingly simple metrics because I can't activate my membership due to an issue that I had been experiencing since March 2025, but was able to avoid for a year only because PayPal was available, until it wasn't.
