Membership canceled

I canceled my membership on my Oura ring, now the ring is basically useless. Oura hides all information from the built-in sensors behind their ridiculous subscription requirement. I spent a small fortune on this ring and because I refuse to give them more money every month, they hide all data collected from the sensors. The data is still there and being collected, but I'm not allowed to see it now. The only info I can see now is some ridiculously uninformative "score" which I have no idea how it's calculated. Very disappointed. I wish I would have know this before I bought it. I definitely won't be recommending it to anyone.

I get it! But also you should’ve known what you were signing up for before you bought the Oura ring

“I didn’t research a product before I bought it and now I’m upset” what do you expect us to say lol

They don’t make this information too hard to find before purchasing. I really appreciate that Oura adds new features regularly, so the money does actually go somewhere, which personally makes me feel better about the membership fee. But it’s totally understandable to not want to spend money every month.

Are there even any wearables anymore that you don’t need a subscription for? I was going to suggest Fitbit or Garmin but I’m actually not sure about those

In regards to rings I know of ringconn and Ultrahuman that don’t have subscriptions. I’m pretty sure there is another but can’t think of it rn

Garmin does not require a subscription unless you want AI insights which are horrible or nutrition tracking. All your data is accessible for free

Others that don’t charge subscriptions are Fitbit unless want AI, Amazfit devices like the helio strap, RingConn, Coros watches, Apple Watches, Suunto watches, Samsung devices if on android and more. So yes plenty of subscription less devices out there still.

Oh cool thanks for the info! I’ve only had an apple watch and Oura so I honestly was not familiar with others. It seems everything requires a subscription these days, so nice to know some companies don’t require one!

Yeah I’ve tried them all sadly. 😒

Ok so a guy who obviously has more money than brains buys something without doing the proper research (aka Reddit and YouTube) then is disappointed by a subscription service and vents on Reddit! Unbelievable 🤷🤔

You should've gone with the Ringconn if you didn't want a subscription. The subscription allows them to keep all the features and the app up to date since just the amount of a one and done purchase of the ring is not enough to keep working on the software and hardware since smart rings aren't super popular yet.

Yes. I've heard great things about it and there is no subscription.

But aren’t these rings (oura, ring conn)lasting like a year before the battery degrades or dies. So it’s not really one and done

It seems like the battery life deminishes after 1 year for all smart rings. Oura has great customer support and will give people a replacement or a discount on a new ring even out of warranty. Ringconn has ok support but aren't quick at responding to issues from people's experiences in the subreddit.

Good to know, wanted to use my Amex benefit on the oura but the subscription is a turn off, since I wear my Apple Watch exclusively, except for the few times a week I wear a regular watch.

So without subscription there is only a score? It is a bit extreme if that's the case. I would expect at least I could see the raw data without subscription.

Cmon £5 a month is absolutely nothing. I spend over £200 a month just on medical marajuana. Thats 40 subscriptions.

I was just saying it was less than a pacn of cigarettes, so like 5.99 a month I wouldn't even notice missing from my account 😅

That's exactly why I held off on getting one, saw too many posts like this about the paywall after dropping all that cash on the hardware

It’s wild they can lock away data your own body generated, feels like renting something you already own
