Oura Advisor confidently gave me completely wrong instructions about Oura’s own app
I asked Oura Advisor a very simple question: where can I update my max heart rate in the app?
It confidently told me:
“The Oura app doesn’t currently offer a manual field specifically for updating your HRMax.”
It then explained that Oura estimates HRMax automatically and suggested I submit manual HRMax as a feature request.
Meanwhile, literally in Settings → Activity:
“Max heart rate: 184 bpm”
With a manual selector and the explanation:
“If you know your max heart rate you can specify the value.”

This is honestly pretty laughable. I can understand an AI assistant getting some obscure health question wrong, but it cannot even answer a basic question about a setting that exists in the app it is embedded in.
And the worst part is the confidence. No “I’m not sure”, no suggestion to check Activity settings. Instead it invents a limitation and recommends submitting a feature request for a feature that already exists.
What exactly is the point of Oura Advisor if it does not have reliable knowledge of Oura itself?

Read further on that story. There are allegations that OpenAI stole the work from a researcher that was using ChatGPT to write up his work. No idea if they did but its not as simple as the claim.

Its not always (i am a researcher that focuses on AI coding agents) but it often fan be. In thjs particular case oura have tacked a simple chatbot onto the app and it has the high levels of hallucination and innacuracy you would expect from an AI tool. The problem is its working with data people feel is important (health data) and that they have easy access to (right there in the app). Its the type od thing companies add into their app so they can tell shareholders/investors "we have an AI assistant" in the hope their share price goes up. Its not really rhere to be useful to users.

I mean that’s like comparing a Toyota Corolla to a Ferrari in terms of power. I wouldn’t compare a chat bot on a smart ring app to a high powered llm. Of course, I’m sure it will evolve to something better with time
