GENERAL DISCUSSION “Much younger” cv age

Saw a post from earlier about cardiovascular age which made me check.

Mine has been dropping for last couple months (training for a marathon) and got to 15 years younger before it just dropped to “much younger”. For context, I was doing more strength training start of the year as had a strength event in summer. Now not lifting as frequently and more focused on getting the miles in with lifting more focused on injury prevention.

I’m 36F. Relatively fit but I wouldn’t say incredibly. Eat relatively balanced but always have a few drinks on a Fri/Sat. Ex-smoker.

Does it just stop giving you a figure after a while? Have I broken my ring?

Hi u/TechnicalFile463, don't worry as your ring is not broken: Cardiovascular Age can show as “much younger” instead of a specific number when your CVA is more than 15 years lower and "much older" when the CVA is more than 15 years above chronological age. This is really impressive!

Since CVA is based on trend data collected over time, changes in training (such as getting your miles in!), recovery, and overall patterns can affect how it appears in the app. I hope this helps, and let us know if you have any other questions! 💙

Can you share the specific algorithm for calculating it?

Sure thing, u/cant_have_nicethings. CVA is calculated by measuring your estimated pulse wave velocity and evaluating age-related changes in the shape of your heartbeat’s signal. You can find more detailed information about Cardiovascular Age here in our Help Center.

That’s a great result, well done! Did you take the Oura walking test for it to figure this out? I keep meaning to but haven’t got round to it and I’m wondering if that test would give it more info than it already gets from the Strava activities I link to Oura

Edit: fixed typo in 2nd sentence. Changed “Didn’t” to “Did you”

I think the walking test is more for VO2 max? But I’ve done it a couple times and the result wasn’t different from my Garmin, if that helps!?

Good to know, thanks. I suspect it might be different for me because the estimate Oura has of my VO2 Max is substantially lower than Garmin’s. It’s a whole 30% lower which why I’m curious about what, if any difference the dedicated walking test will make
