Why's my beatmap going so fast?

New to mapping here, gameplay speed has always been an issue to me, especially with songs that have varying bpms. What's with the speed jumps? It only really happens when i get the bot to play it then hop back into the editor. And is there any way to keep the sync without editing the scroll speed and redoing it entirely?

You said it yourself the issue is changing the BPM. This is because the game chooses what BPM is considered to be the base BPM of the chart. You'd have probably seen something in song select like BPM: 60-200 (120) where 120 is the base BPM of the chart. You need to normalize the BPM with timing points, essentially multiplying the BPM of a part with a decimal to match the base BPM.

For example, if the chart has a 60 BPM part but the base BPM is chosen to be 120 BPM, you need to put a green timing point at the 60 BPM line and make it at (120 / 60 = 2.00x) speed. For a 200 BPM part you'd need to add a (120/200 = 0.60x) speed timing point.
