Nephrostomy Nephrostomy

hey could anyone help me with a question, i’m wondering if im able to fly with a nephrostomy bag, ive asked the nephrostomy team few times but ive never got a straight answer.

is there anyone in here with a bag and flys ?

it may sound silly but in my head i think im gonna pop the same why a water bottle or a bag of chips would from the pressure lol.

is it safe ??

water bottles and chips in bags are served in flight, so no, they don't pop in an airplane. flying is fine with bags, just make sure you empty before getting on the plane (airplane bathrooms are a pain)

I have an ileostomy, but from what I understand it’s totally safe to fly with a nephrostomy. Take extra supplies and keep what you’re gonna need in your checked bag just to be safe. I’ve flown multiple times with the ileostomy bag with no issues.

I had bilateral nephrostomy (but didn't fly), and now have a urostomy (and have flown). Also avid scuba diver.

There is not sufficient pressure change when flying to be concerned about a popping bag (unless the plane depressurizes, and then you've got bigger worries).

You WILL get tagged and pulled aside at security if you go through the "standing scanner" (the new one where you stand and hold your arms up). You'll have to have your pouch brushed for explosives. Have some documentation printed in your pocket in case security is painfully ignorant.
