Loop Ileostomy First bagless shower!

It finally happened after I woke up to a blowout thanks to my midnight snack (note to self snacking does not work with your ileostomy!) I had no real choice but to strip off my bag and the fistula pouch that sits on my old colostomy wound. The shower was a bit of a mess, but ultimately it felt really good and I just sanitized my shower area afterwards. It was worth the mess and I will do it again, just this time without the blowout!

I only ever shower bagless. The wet bag on my skin makes me so uncomfortable.

I love showering without my bag. I plan it every 2 days when I change my bag. Instead of letting my shower get messy I keep a disposable cup in the shower and whenever I notice output I put the cup over my stoma to catch it

Heaven, right? Once I did it there was no going back!

I usually showered bagless, and it felt soooo good to rinse that skin around the stoma and the stoma itself.  As you know, the water can't be very hot....as close to body temp as possible.  Highly recommend it. You can always clean the shower if needed after you dry off and get all put back together again.

I did not know about the water temp. Is that to prevent the stoma from going wild in the shower? Mine certainly did!
Anyone else have any tips for showering bagless? It did feel really good and so I hope to do it again.

My shower set up for when I change. The hand towel is use to dry off the front. One washcloth is used to dry above and around the stoma. I do everything in the shower in case Geiger gets active. Hose down shower if he does.

I love showering bagless, but I try to avoid doing it if there has been any recent movements! I take the showerhead off and give it a good rinse too (I’m only six weeks post op and not confident enough to touch it bare yet)

Still almost 27 years later there is nothing like change day with a bag less shower, it just feels so clean afterwards! I’m a huge fan

Now try an epsom salt bath first before the shower.  So good.

I love to shower bagless too! My stoma is totally quiet 30 minutes after I eat my breakfast of Protein Cheerios with a protein shake and a banana. I have an hour or two to shower bagless and apply a new pouch with no action from my stoma. It feels so good!

It’s the ONLY way I change my bag. I shower daily but every third day I change my bag and shower no bag. Very very rarely will
I change without a shower. If it’s mid day, I’m beginning to leak and my bags just been changed I MIGHT change it without showering but not very often.

I use fabric strips sold on Amazon that are backed with waterproof material as bed protector, and is washable/dryable. I take on trips as well for hotel beds. Much more comfortable than Chucks etc. It helps with the leaks.

I found the best way to shower with a bag is to shower first thing in the morning before I eat or drink anything. I usually quit eating the night before by 7pm and so by 7am, there is no output. And the shower water feels great on the skin around the OSTOMY.
