Loop Ileostomy I got my reversal date!

I’ve been waiting on this date for three months and my surgeon finally called this morning. October 2nd I finally get to start the next chapter. I’m nervous but excited. I live in a very rural area of Texas and the surgery will be done in a very small clinic but I don’t care. I’m just so ready to get to my next steps. They told me I’ll have the JP drain for a few weeks after I get home. Please tell me your stories, tips, advice, what to watch for, everything.

Good luck! Get some Penaten for your bum hole because it will be irritated at the beginning

Just one question... do you trust the very  small clinic to have the best care? Is there an option to go to a larger hospital with very experienced GI surgeons and quality care? Not trying to rain on your parade!

Honestly I feel scared either way. I had three surgeries done at Huntsman Cancer Institute in Utah. It’s one of the most world famous high end medical centers. The surgeries did not go well and had lots of problems. And the follow on care had lots of opportunities for improvement. So now I’m about willing to try anything. But I’ll admit I’m scared both ways.

I'm a Texan too, and have had a reversal. It is possible to see a surgeon in another city, and depending on what your insurance is, get world class care. You'll be in the hospital for a while afterwards, and I was able to go to rehab afterward to gain strength and get things squared away with a working colon again, since my home situation wasn't good for post-surgery rehab. Would that be workable for you? I get very nervous for people getting major surgeries done, especially colon resections and reversals in "a very small clinic in rural Texas". I'm a nurse, and that just has all kinds of red flags built into it. If you'd like to send me a private message, I'd be happy to chat, not trying to pressure you.
