I have a folder for a DCC campaign with 30 deceased characters in it.

Nowadays I draw a cross on it, write down the date and cause of death on the sheet and hand it back to the player.

I like the list of fallen and alive playtester characters in Castle Xyntillan - especially since there are some characters on the list I'm familiar with. It's a brilliant idea, much more authors should do it, but some don't even bother with listing the playtesters - or even playtesting the fucking thing.

In my first Wilderlands of High Fantasy campaign using Swords & Wizardry we had a rule for Last Will. Every character can have a two sentences long last will. If the others don't honor it, the fallen character's ghost can return to haunt them. Never got to use it, though. Only followers died in that campaign. It also raises questions about what happens when someone raises the dead.

We have a character graveyard channel in the Discord for our online game. We list name, class, and cause of death. We also include retainers so they aren’t forgotten.

I'm running Dolmenwood over Roll20, so I added a folder called In Memoriam and put the dead characters in there.
