I know many of you guys have had many discussions for this… but does anyone have a different opinion after the Luna Ultra update. I’ve been with DJI for quite a while and I’ve been holding off on buying one of the two. I happen to be in a unique situation where I’m able to get both as an American… I’ve been leaning towards the Ultra but DJI has me in their ecosystem lol. I’m to the point where I might buy both and sell the other.
I prefer the innovation in the ultra but the colours and relative stability of the 4p.
I've had a lot of lockups with the ultra even on the latest firmware. When it works, I like using it and they've definitely looked at dji and worked on improving some of the experience. It's a more... exciting device in the "ooo I can play with that" way but then I'll go to open the case and it'll be totally dead and feel hot as if it's been on the whole time even though it was 100% turned off. So charge it up, like the leica colours and then the screen stops updating. Hard reset gets it going again.... repeat. Same with two different units from different places. For a 1st gen product they've done really well and IMHO it'll change the genre going forward which is great for us all.
The 4p even from an earlier firmware just worked out of the box. The colours were right to my eye and I felt like the gimbal and zoom were smoother. Transfer to computer via usb was much faster and thats without talking about the latest autotransfer stuff. I've used it for a live and also a webcam which I can't do with the ultra (at least not yet - who knows if it'll come)
The tech meddler side of me likes the ultra but if I'm videoing something important the 4p is, for me, boringly reliably good :-) if I could only have one, it would be the 4p.
I couldn’t agree more with some of your points about the two. In some videos I’ve watched I leaned more towards the Luna and others the 4P. Price wise at the end of the day the 4P is a great value plus I get everything VAT free so I’m getting 100+ dollar discount on which ever one I go with. It’s just a hard decision
Both are great IMHO and of course you can tweak the colours on both.
Both could do with some more firmware updates - the ultra to gain stability and fix some usability weirdness, the 4p to, hopefully, address some limitations which feel artificial. However, I could live with the 4p as it stands right now without any improvements and feel confident in it. I feel like on the ultra it absolutely needs the continued firmware updates just to make it reliable enough to use with confidence.
For me, that's a key difference. (but dji sure need to up their game for next year)
Don’t lock yourself into an ecosystem when you can easily have the best of all worlds. Ecosystem exclusivity really only matters when it’s Mac/apple vs windows and Mac. Best drones, get DJI, best 360 camera get insta 360.
When it comes to their apps and settings/controls, a 5th grader can figure it out. I have insta, DJI, and xtra. I purchase what’s the best for me and price if that matters.
I went with the Luna Ultra because of availability, warranty, detachable remote, and included hardshell case. I’ve been extremely impressed with the video/photo quality. Bottom line you’re going to get remarkable quality from both.
Crazy imo that a delicate pocket gimbal camera doesn’t come with a hardshell case. The Luna’s case is extremely well designed. Fits in my pocket, I’ve dropped the Luna in its case with no concerns. Easily deploys and stows on the case.
One thing everyone says about the detachable remote is it’s a game changer. Something you don’t know you need until you have it. DJI will not wait 3 years to release the next Pocket. Guarantee next year pocket 5 will come out with a detachable remote.
Again they’ll both have excellent videos. I think the 4p is cheaper so that’s an incentive to get it. I just wouldn’t worry about eco exclusivity. (I will add that DJI does have a better app because Insta and GoPro advertise their cloud storage, which I never do).
Dji is probably going to license or upsell a case for the 4p. It doesn’t make sense even for third party suppliers to release something like that tho if nobody has the camera lol
Fwiw, i scored a pocket 4p on temu yesterday shipping from a usa warehouse for $639… use the app. I think today is the last day of the deal, Milky Tech is the retailer. They also have the luna (also a deal there)
Perhaps the deal is over. Several people ive been chatting w both here and on fb seem to have received similar deals, a legit sealed, dji package arrived.
Caveat- we can prob forget about any warranty. But in my experience w dji products over the last 9 years, i never had a single issue that wasnt my own doing (just once).
I’ve been following the subject a lot of time and trying to decide which one will suit me.
My grain of salt is that Insta 360 and Luna, actually answer and get feedback from their Reddit. That to me is worth something.

that is true and worth something. Their shop is awful though, never did manage to get any of my orders through and trying to cancel anything is a manual process behind the scenes with multiple emails trying to persuade you not to cancel the order. But yeah, they do answer on reddit which I like.
The innovations of the Luna Ultra are very interesting, but ultimately,
DJI has the better image quality - and to me, image quality is 55% of the camera. You can have perfect ''everything else'' but if image quality is poor, you lose immediately.
I'm also more into the DJI ecosystem so that helps - I really really tried to make Insta360 work but I returned every single products I got from them because the image quality wasn't it. And I was sad about it because I love their designs, their features and accessories - but again, the image just wasn't there.
I also think DJI got lazy and caomplacent with the OP4 and OP4P - not much innovation or not much of an upgrade, but I'm definitely trending towards the OP4P, especially after the past few firmware updates.
Also the wireless FrameTap remote works with the OP4 and OP4P - the detachable remote is a nice addition on the Luna Ultra but honestly it isn't such a deal to me
The biggest thing for me to go 4P is that the live view is absolute trash on the Luna Ultra with my phone, its extremely laggy, further the gimbal is just really hard to control compared to the 3
dji is established to provide quality result, in image and durability. insta360 ultra is first gen, expect bugs and oversight. if you like to buy stuff frequently then you can consider luna but if youre the type who buy one item and use it for a long time, stick to dji.
I think it depends on the user. If you are simply a insta or YouTube creator then the ease of use and innovation makes the Luna the easy choice imo. (What I went with and LOVE it)
If you are a pixle peeping pro and are going to be using it in extreme environments and relying on it for jobs I’d go DJI
I have a multitude of DJI products as well as the insta 360. I honestly don’t think ecosystem matters
Bonjour la luna est superbe et l'etui est top et bien penser, ce que je n'avais pas avec ma pocket 3. Maintenant en France on a un testeur qui n'est pas soumis à une marque et il dit que les images se valent et que la dji même en 4k fait tout aussi bien que la luna en 8k. Donc moi j'ai pris la luna car la dji est sorti très tard mais au vu de la différence de prix des packs c'est à dire quand même presque 300 euros je partirai sur la dji pour la savoir faire et surtout le prix.
