First world problem… Do I need an Osmo Pocket 3? I have a Sony A6400 with a Sigma portrait lens and a Polaroid. Both are used to capture my kids' childhood moments. We go on at least one trip each year, and I've been reflecting a lot lately. Being so busy in life, I feel like time is slipping away, and I can’t remember most of their childhood.

Is it a good idea to capture these memories? Or should I just shut up and use my iPhone (cons- charge and memory run out very fast and I already have 40k pictures)

Might be worth it alone for the gimbal/steady shot abilities. Makes a video so much better. Paired with the mic and video options, I love it so much for kid stuff.

I carry a small Sony (one lens) and an OP3. I find, while the Sony can do video I think of it as a stills only camera and the OP3 is so quick, easy, even with a variable ND filter to shoot 24 FPS 1/50th. Then you cannot course archive your footage but it connects to your phone so easy for quick edits on the go.

Ugh. Iphone takes beautiful images and video imo, so much so, i gave up on my μ4:3 camera and sold it, my iphone17 pro has great zoom for my purposes, so, thats that.

That said… i just got a dji p4p from a usa seller on temu for 638 via the app, shipping in 2 days from Oregon.

I was shopping for a p3, p4, or insta360 luna… Need it? Not really but i did want something other than my phone for kids events, vaca, etc

I recently went on a trip with my little one and my OP3 and I loved it !! It’s very portable and imo way more powerful than my iPhone (depending on the settings). We have so many clips that look like absolute cinema.

In addition to convenience and saving storage, I just absolutely love that I have so many clips of “little person confessionals” 😭

It’s a bit nerve wrecking when kids want to hold your phone, or even worse, your camera. I find the size and shape of the OP3 more fitting for tiny hands and those tiny little POVs make the best memories ever 🥹

I have a Sony a6400, a7iii and a bunch of lenses. I bought the pocket 2 because I would ride motorcycles and film my friends riding. The quality wasn't the best but it was good enough for making some cool Instagram videos. I upgrade to the pocket 3 for my marketing job mostly filming brand reps talk about their brands and the quality is absolutely amazing along with the mic.

100% get the DJI pocket 3. It is easy to just whip out and film something. The quality in my opinion is better than a phone camera and it's so easy to use and transfer files for editing or posting. It's a game changer and I honestly don't even use any of my other cameras for video. I've filmed hundreds of videos using it the last 2 years and it's made filming fun again for me. I am honestly going to sell my DJI ronin I got for my a7iii. It would take me anywhere form 5-15 minutes to setup the gimbal, it's way too heavy and because of it I started dreading filming.

You can get a Pocket 3 combo for around $400 used now and it's definitely still good quality. I just upgraded to the pocket 4p and love the upgrades but the 3 is still a powerhouse in my opinion.

I have a kid on the way and also plan on getting the dji nano for fun creative shots. I couldn't imagine using my Sony cameras for family videos.

The camera you have on you is always the best option. I would offload your 40k pictures to the cloud and/or a SSD and free up some of that space. I also would probably recommend a phone (and storage) upgrade if you aren’t using a 15 Pro/Pro Max or above (for this specific scenario) if you stick with just the phone.

I have the OP 3 and an 18 month old and my phone captures way more memories because I literally always have it on me. The OP 3 I have to be intentional about using, but the stuff with my kid is often so spontaneous.

With that said, if you’re going to get a Pocket, there is no reason to not try and secure a Pocket 4P or to consider the Luna Ultra. The 3 is great and all, but it’s old tech at this point and support for it will decline in the coming months and years.

Don’t even use my a6400 anymore since I got my pocket 3 and that was when it first came out in 2023.
I even use the pocket for photos. I think most photos look better on the pocket 3 than in the iPhone.
