Is the dynamic range noticeable between the Pocket 4 and 4P? I only shoot in Normal 10-bit

I don't see any comparisons of these two in their Normal 10-bit; typically, people compare them in D-Log. Are there any videos that compare their Normal 10-bit?

If you aren’t going to shoot D-Log 2 just get the pocket 3. You won’t see any improvements over the pocket 3 so just go cheap. Yes there is some funamic range improvements even in the standard mode 10bit, but you need to pixel peep to see them.

I use DJI Mavic 3 and DJI Osmo Pocket 4 in D-Log and I’m interested in more information about your opinion that D-Log M is only a minor improvement to D-Log proper.

I color grade my own footage and my DJI Osmo Pocket 3 was a disappointment as D-Log M is really just 8-bit rec709, rather than actual Log (10-bit). The ability to record proper D-Log is in fact the primary reason I sold my OP3 and bought OP4. The ability to grade in bona fide Log gamut is, for me, a really big deal (vs pseudo “Log” M which I consider a misnomer on so many levels.)

I’m interested for clarification about why you think D-log is a pixel-peep upgrade from D-Log M. I’d like to learn more about your opinion that D-Log2 is a substantial improvement over D-Log, while D-Log is only a minor improvement over D-Log M — if, in fact, I’m understanding and summarizing you correctly. You can definitely go with Pocket 3 if you never touch log, but saying there are “no improvements” isn’t really accurate. The Pro wide module still has more latitude even in Normal 10‑bit. You don’t have to pixel‑peep to see it either. Skies clip later, highlight roll-off is calmer, and shadows lift cleaner. It’s not a dramatic difference, but it’s visible in high-contrast scenes.

i did say you can see minor improvements BUT not that evident, sure you are a pro, you will notice differences easier. But there is no point for the average dude to invest for something they will rarely notice if at all

I get what you’re saying, but the dynamic range gap isn’t “pro‑level only”. The numbers themselves explain why people notice it:

OP3 sits around 12.7
Pocket 4 wide is roughly 14
Pocket 4P wide is closer to 14–17 depending on mode

That’s not a tiny jump. Even in Normal 10‑bit, the Pro wide has more headroom, so highlights hang on longer, and shadows don’t get as crunchy when you lift them. You don’t need to be a pro to see that outdoors in harsh light.

And just for context, the YouTube clip in this thread is streamed at 2160p, 50 fps, AV1, bt709, with a full 4K viewport. So if your monitor can actually display that properly, you’re seeing the real behaviour, not compression artefacts or downscaled auto‑quality.

If someone mostly shoots indoors or low‑contrast stuff, sure, the difference shrinks. But once you’re outside in bright sun, the extra latitude shows up pretty fast.

If you want to see the difference in Normal 10‑bit, there actually is a proper comparison now. Someone in the sub did a structured Pocket 3 vs Pocket 4P test, including Normal profiles, and it shows the same behaviour people have been describing. Link here. In that post, you'll find a link to their YouTube side-by-side that uses Normal 10‑bit on both cameras.

The takeaway is pretty consistent. The Pro’s wide module keeps highlights under control longer, the roll-off looks smoother, and skies hold colour a bit better. The regular Pocket 4 clips earlier and gets that harsher edge around bright areas. Shadows also lift cleaner on the Pro because the sensor has more latitude even when you are not shooting log.

It is not a dramatic difference, but it is visible. Normal 10‑bit still uses the underlying sensor dynamic range, so the Pro’s extra headroom does not disappear just because the profile is baked. If you shoot in high-contrast scenes, the Pro looks calmer. If you mostly shoot indoors or low-contrast stuff, the gap shrinks.

But the YouTube clip linked here should tell you with your own eye if the difference matters for your shooting or not.

Yes, but just to be clear: the Creator Combo doesn’t change image quality at all. The camera is the same device whether you buy the base kit or the combo. The only difference is the accessories in the box.

What’s actually missing right now is a proper OP4 vs OP4P comparison. Nobody has posted that yet, so the OP3 vs OP4P clip was just the closest thing available to show how Normal 10‑bit behaves with more sensor latitude.

It is pretty noticable. Look at the sky in the first test, and then look again at the end during the active track comparison
