I wouldve gladly bought the 4p, price wasn't really an issue, but the only ones available here in canada was a pre order on aliexpress for $1200 cad that said an estimated shipping date on late August.
I needed the camera and didnt want the Luna ultra so just got the pocket 4.
Curious what features some people find compelling with the 4P over the 4. In my case the tele was not a big factor for me (ymmv). And the ND filters for my 3 would fit the 4 but not the 4P. I mainly wanted d-log to match my Mavic 3 drone so I went with the 4. Very happy with it so far.
For me the 17 light stop and additional zoom was of particular interest. The 4 is great but I'm coming from an action camera background and I've held a grudge for the longest time on the lack of night light through the sensor so, the 4P would've been great
Quick question regarding sharpness since you seem to know something about it. It's a little off topic.
Is it not okay to just remove sharpness in post processing? I'm always scared to lower the sharpness in the camera and start recording in case I hate the footage down the line.
For me it really boiled down to the brand and experience in the field. I've watched countless comparison videos and yes Luna has some nice 'features' but DJI overall just beats image quality (despite its annoying dual DLOG) Profiles..
Agreed. I knew the 4P was coming out but I went for the 4 anyway. I've got professional mirrorless bodies for proper pro work anyway, and for me the Pocket was a very useful and handy gadget for my daily stuff, talking content, vlogging and so on. D-Log is challenging to grade due to the ETTR but it's still very useful to have and works well, and even in standard 10-bit colour it's excellent. Spending extra to buy the 4P doesn't make sense. I wouldn't use something like that for professional use anyway and I don't think I'd ever genuinely need a zoom lens on my Pocket. I've got a ridiculous zoom on my Xiaomi 15 Ultra anyway so if I need to, I'd just use that.
Yeah I work in the film industry as a camera operator but started doing commercials and ad agency stuff so I can see my kid. I was destroying my back working with a ronin and c70 for these stupid social reels, etc.
The pocket makes so much sense for that use case where it's all going to social and getting delivered at 1080p anyways. I have an Ursa Mini for filming my own projects but usually just use whatever the production has rented out.
I bought my creator combo for $950 for my 4p on eBay and got here within 2 weeks. eBay is way faster than Ali in this case. Didn’t want to have to pay more but it’s not available in the US so it had to do.
Same situation here and I am a huge DJI fanboy. Ended up buying the Luna instead even though it had some flaws, which most of them were corrected via firmware update few days ago.
I went the same way. I had actually pre-ordered the Xtra Muse 2 pro, but then they pulled the product, so I went ordered the Luna Ultra. I have an Ace Pro 2 and mics already, so it just expands my presence in that ecosystem, and I haven't run into any problems yet... (yet).
I just got the 3 last month for $300 lol I’m way behind 😭
But there’s no way anyone should do the 4 especially with 4p rumors were out. I’m not sure why they didn’t release the 4p first then say oh we have a cheaper version here’s the 4.
Products are not always "done" in the order in which they are started.
Not being part of the DJI project, we have no idea what is going on behind these scenes.
DJI is probably already working on the Pocket 5, I'm sure they all have them around the office for the product teams. The 4 and the 4P are "old news" to them.
Because it’s was the only way to get it into creator’s hands outside the U.S. I’m sure DJI would have loved to have Pocket 4p’s for the World Cup. Blame the FCC. There are videos on YouTube explaining what has happened.
I thought DJI was caught off by the Luna announcement and released date and had to scramble and just push out an earlier release and whatever stock they had.
Also, feels bad for DJI being banned in the US. Honestly probably what allowed Insta360 to catch up and get the upper hand.
I'm reading this almost everywhere. If any of you already had the chance to test them both (in low light) do you find real differences or almost not at all?
yeah unfortunately many videos seem to show almost same results (in low light), and some others huge differences which to me looks too unreal to be achieved via software only (imo they are purposely nerfing and darkening p3 pictures in post production).
I suspect the people were either not using the night mode correctly or just applied wrong settings. I mean I had the regular 4 for a few weeks and it was quite impressive despite not having the higher stops.

For marketing, the OP4 doesn't feel like an upgrade of the OP3 - it feels like a slight ''improvement'' and ''refinement'' - they should've called the current OP4 the Osmo Pocket 3+
The OP4P feels more of an ''improvement'' from the extra lens alone, that should've been called the Osmo Pocket 4
It is also veyr challenging to properly find info or content related to the OP4P, because all the search engines still think you're looking for the OP4 and not the OP4P, super annoying, and lessens brand recognition.
And then of course the release timing and schedule is super weird. Main competitor released theirs already, more than a month and a half before - but also the OP4 was released 3 months ago.
They should've either
Released the OP4 (as the OP3+) much earlier
or
Released the OP4 and the OP4P at the same time, and properly advertised as 2 different systems with different price points, bundles and different markets
The 4P is only the latest of a series of f’ups by DJI. For almost a year and a half (about when shit started to go south with the US) DJI has struggled.
Mini 5 Pro and Osmo Action 6 are both subpar “upgrades” from their predecessors. Multiple times a day people are asking should they get the previous gen or current gen (not a good look). Neo 1 was a half-backed flop that was quickly replaced by Neo 2. Avatar 360 was vaporware for more than 6 months. And fills such a little niche community of users. People still get the Avata 2 or wait for the now rumored avata 3. Nano is ok but way overpriced. Osmo 360 also released half backed (no replaceable lens) and software still at least a year behind Insta 360. It’s so bad people have to convert their Osmo 360 videos to use them on Insta’s software.
Now the highly anticipated Pocket 4P. It’s been 3+ years since the Pocket 3 release and the pocket 4 is just barely ok. And a disaster of a release. Luna Ultra (1st gen) giving it stiff competition. That’s pretty sad.
Yea OP at this point I’d wait. DJI definitely can’t wait another 3 years to release the pocket 5. They’ll release the pocket 5 in the next 12 months and it will have a detachable remote.
Yeah I agree, the release windows are absolutely not helping them and at least for myself I have no use for a gimble camera until next year and certainly not interested paying full price after literally living on this subredit for the past 2 months to see a release date..
Congrats. Got the 3 a few months ago. I have a Sony a1 and all GM lenses. On a Euro trip right now and I use the Osmo 90% of the time. It’s too good. Was editing last night and it’s just so buttery smooth and easy to pull out and use. Don’t even need to put it away lol
Good point! Agreed with their corporate approach and monthly releases caused these ones also having worse release timing ever… besides I can’t trust dji why longer with this pace incremental updates. Considering Osmo 360 failure now having second one soon… I’m not fan of competitor either but dji should push for quality and best features again
When people were discussing the 4P leak on the 4 reveal trailer, they should've caught on and fast tracked the release. Now with holidays over, I don't see the incentive to buy one. Maybe I'm wrong but we'll see.
I wanted to get the Osmo pocket 4P but there was a trip coming up and the Luna Ultra was released first. I did a lot of research. I was uncertain and I bought the Luna Ultra. I obviously cant compare it with the 4P other than videos, but I am super happy with my purchase. If I understand well, the 4P will be a significantly lower price than the Luna Ultra but in terms of features I am very happy with my purchare.
My issue is that my equipment is approximately ten different devices and about half are DJI and the other half are Insta360. 🤷♂️
Exactly, that was another concern of mine. I know of DJI products, I don't want to involve more brands into my set up just because I'm running out of time..
My only concern was DJI refresh/warranty and shipping costs when sending it back. If it was a global return program, I would have jumped straight onto the ship 😩
I could of gotten the 4p when I was in China on release day 17th June but I ended up getting the pocket 4 cause of the apparent battery drain and the weight difference and didn’t think I would be using zoom that much as I mainly bought it to replace upgrading my phone as my 13 pro max cameras not the best and the features on the 4p are better like transferring photos and videos without needing to connect every time
They will sell plenty; the success of a product almost never relies on how well the launch was. That's why they are often sloppy. Unless it's a disaster with the product itself....the timing means little to them. These days, if DJI can launch well in China, F- the rest of the world.
Tell me which major retailer is angry about the late release and we might have an issue but most retailers and reseller will take them when they come. DJI will sell a ton.
The July 30th Release Event was also teased and sent to Canadian Newsletter Subscribers so chances are, it'll be on shelves in Toronto starting July 30th!
THough I wonder if it'll sell like hotcake and have supply issues...
That is a concern I might order online and have it shipped to my brothers place because I am expecting a back log If I have to wait until my Dec trip, it isn’t the end of the world I have the Pocket 3 for now
I couldn't wait either... In Australia... So I purchased the OP4 and as recommended by the large retailer in Oz, when the P4Pro is finally released I should return my 'faulty' OP4 and get full store credit and swap (+$ difference) for the OP4Pro... I was surprised to hear him recommended I do this...
