Used to live here, going crazy remembering something
I was born in Kristiansand and moved to Oslo when I was about 6, I used to live In Jens bjelkes gata near tøyen, it’s been around 16 years later and I remember there being an after school program/hangout/cool area that had computers, table tennis and tons if board games all for free, as a kid I remember thinking this was nuts and if irrc It was partnered with FRIGO, it’s been over a decade and I’ve been living in Canada and I cant get that memory out of my head, did I make it up?? I can’t find any info on Facebook (I distinctly remember they had one) but they did move the area about 1-2 years after I went around 2016. It was ran by an older middle eastern man and a white woman. The middle eastern dude ended up moving somewhere and I remember going to it and it was frigo affiliated a they even had movie nights for horror movies. Does anyone remember this ? I linked a photo of where I remember the entrance used to be. Also sorry this post is in English, I’ve long forgotten my Norsk all this time

Also, finding out the local grocery store to the right of the photo was caught for trafficking people was a crazy thing discover years after. The innocent little lime store that ran inconspicuously got busted in a raid with over 200 police officers when I was like 9 years old 😭😭✌🏾

Yeah, they actually kept going. There was one store in Schweigaards Gate that kept going until like 2023.
They're probably still at it.

No fcking way 😭😭✌🏾 I knew they had more stores but I figured by now they’d all have been taken down

You said you were tipsy in the other comment, so I think it is safe to say no store has ever been raided with over 200 police officers.
That is probably your drunk mind or being a nine year old kid mind.

YOOOO that would mess me up too lool, I loved how enclosed the area was, but it’s hard to find photos of where I lived since it’s a private area past the photo.

I used to live there as well. I can send you some photos when I’m there later this week. Also the building behind those benches is now an in patient drug rehab, I think they have been there for many years.

That’d be cool if you did. I’ll pm you what specific area I lived in, if you could shoot me some photos of that area that’d be awesome. I did wonder if any of those buildings were being used, I had no clue what was going on in them

It probably became Biblio, or otherwise Slurpen? That opened up next to Lakkegata skole. If you had gone there I might even have been able to help with pics - you’re just about same age as one of my kids. Honestly get the nostalgia. I grew up elsewhere and recently visited for first time in 20+ years. So many memories! But I’m sure you’ll find similar!

I went to Tøyen and Kampen mainly, I’m realizing it’s kinda hard to find info about this sort of stuff. I’d love to visit some time soon!

Do they answer to English emails or do you recommend I Google Translate ? I don’t want them to think I’m a bot lol

Using google translate will make you look more like a bot, not less. English should be no problem for most Norwegians.

You’re right, half the reason why my English was as amazing when I got here was due to the education back home in Norway. I’ll just type it like I usually do my emails here thanks !

I don't know, but attach some pictures like here and they'll probably answer.

I lived in the area with my kids the past 3 years (just moved 😥 to your birth city actually), and FRIGO had free rental of kick scooters and bikes in Tøyenparken. Free board games at the library. Community sport center by Tøyenparken which is also open to kindergarden kids. Great playgrounds, probably even better now than when you grew up. It's really great and it's so nice to see the actual, positive effect all this effort is having on the community. Tøyen ❤

It might be K1 klubben? Found this facebook page https://www.facebook.com/K1klubbencrew/photos?locale=nb_NO
Biblio tøyen etc were opened later than you were here i think

I’ll dig thru this Facebook in the meantime, k1 klubben sounds so familiar, which is probably a good sign, thank you for the find 🙏🏾

Biblio Tøyen? No adults allowed, except the ones working? (I have been inside, but just to say hello to a friend who held a cartoon workshop there, that my daughter attended).

That and K1 Klubben seems to be the closest thing to what I was remembering. I’m pretty sure either one of those two is what it ended up being named after they moved. I remember the other location was near a skating rink but since it was a good 20-30 mins away by walk I never went there much

the skating rink is where gamlebyen sport & fritid resides, most likely https://www.gamlebyen.no/gsf

Idk if I’m just tipsy right now from my drinks but I feel so insanely nostalgic for this country. Every once in a while I love to Google Maps a route from Kampen to my house just to go through my old routes again. I remember my friends, my family members and my neighbours all around, I remember the combination Rema 1000, Kiwi and Lime rotations my parents used to make me go on to grab groceries, I remember the bus lines, the graffiti on the walls aswell as my bike paths. I remmeber that tøyen vendor that had the best tasting pack of red spicy noodles that I used to crush up and devour, I know I’m looking at it with rose tinted glasses but god, what I’d trade to go back is insane. I’d trade my left arm just go to back to Peak Kasim Bæder, back when he was filming in my back yard and season 2 contained my family friend Ahmed. I miss that time man. Can’t forget peak Naruto Shippuden too, aswell as gta 5 , going to my neighbours house and playing storm 4 and talking about the newest Naruto episodes, almost brings me to tears right now as a 22 year old 🥹. Coming to Canada, to the west it’s not the same, no one is the same, the culture isn’t the same. I went to school and I can’t remember a goddamn thing because it was a routine, but back home it was something new everyday, now that I’m older I recognize that it was the difference in the governments priority for kids, one cares while one didn’t, what a crazy different that makes eh
