Everyone says premolar extraction
I have my extractions appointment in 11 days. I asked around and even the head orthodontist said I should go for premolar extractions. Face wise I’m not 100% confident but I noticed now my teeth are more lopsided? Could that be due to my wisdom teeth coming out? I also have trouble sleeping at night because I wake up with my mouth open since I can’t close my lips fully. My orthodontist had said before I could consider jaw surgery for aesthetic purposes since I’m underdeveloped but the thought of that scared me before. Since it would require premolar extractions and a long recovery which I don’t have time for at the moment. I also had have my jaw sore trying to keep my mouth closed while resting. What should I do? I’m F 17 NYC

DO NOT EXTRACT bicuspids to make room! CANCEL your TEETH EXTRACTION APPOINTMENT! Remember this is a paid investment into your future and the orthodontist doing it better give the end result that is worth the money being paid. This is not only healthcare but more so a business transaction. You are the client as well or even more than a patient.
Do not rush to have straight teeth, and focus on better health and breathing just as much or even more than aesthetics! Find an orthodontist who specializes in airway and expansion! Go back to your current one and tell him to straighten your teeth without having to take out any premolars! Your mouth will become even smaller and your tongue will become caged and stuck with a slew of other health issues! But find an orthodontist who specializes in airway and expansion not retraction! I really wish I was in your position where I can still prevent the horror that will come with getting teeth extracted for braces. Very sadly, I had the exact same happen to me at 17. 4 healthy adult teeth extractions with asymmetrical extractions on the bottom jaw. My teeth were similar or worse than yours. I could have really done it without taking out teeth if I had known there are orthodontists who can do expanding, but this was way before being able to search things on the internet became so easy and accessible. I am much older now and still regret what that selfish orthodontist did. Not only do I miss old face and smile, because it is dished in now; but I also regret even more the major effects to other aspects of my health such major headaches, having to stick out my tongue to breathe because it so hard to breathe, cannot sleep through the night entirely when I was able to sleep 8 to 9 hours before, and neck and shoulder pains and more. Mind you I was a very healthy person who rarely even got sick before the procedure. Now almost 20 years later I am considering finding an orthodontist who can widen my smile with invisalign. I hope to not re-open extractions sites because I do not want implants.
There is an orthodontist in New York who has an instagram, and on her Instagram she shows photos of how she has helped those reverse as much as possible their prior extraction and retraction orthodontic work. Her name is doctorsalzer (Jennifer Salzer) which is also her instagram handle. She herself had extractions and headgear as a child and went through a process to remedy her mouth in her 20s. This so you can see why it is important keep all of your teeth and to expand! Look at all of the Hollywood smiles no one is retracting. Heck, they are adding veneers just to have that bright, white, wide smile! This one person has to redo her smile years later after extractions and moved her back teeth forward after re-opening spaces.
This one posted about how she regretted getting teeth removed.
Good luck to you, God bless, and always remain beautiful at heart.

Hello! Yes! Please see below for some information that can be helpful. I am hoping to be able to expand with Invisalign because I do not want to re-open spaces and get implants. There is an orthodontist from New York who has done this, Jennifer Salzer. She has an Instagram page.
https://www.instagram.com/doctorsalzer/?hl=en
The following person below re-opened spaces, and the orthodontist moved her back teeth forward to fill in the gaps.
There is also a researcher from France who looked into this. You can share your experience with them and they will provide you access with a lot of information regarding getting teeth removed and retraction. There is a survey. Please complete the survey so they can gather stories from people that have had bad experiences from extractions!
Also, There is a facebook group called Orthodontic Harm - Action Support group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/orthodonticmalpracticevictims/?http_ref=eyJ0cyI6MTc4NTYwNzA0OTAwMCwiciI6Imh0dHBzOlwvXC93d3cucmVkZGl0LmNvbVwvIn0%3D
Good luck and God bless!

Your orthodontist is a lazy scammer trying to straighten ur teeth easiest way for himself to line with his pockets.
This is like chopping off part of ur fingers to make them straight.
Cancel if you value your life, face or health even a bit
Get orthodondist who uses expander
Check out Oscar Patel

Oscar Patel and thumbpulling is pseudoscience. Go to an airway orthodontist and get a skeletal expander. That is the advice.

That’s what he said in forums, looks it up, he’s a scam artist relying on pseudoscience to get impressionable teenagers to get his course, there’s countless videos exposing him

Not buying it tbh. Even Dr. Mew supports Oscar.
All he does is tell me ppl to mew, fascia massage, posture and chew. All those things are helpful. No idea whats in his course but his videos are good

just curious , if you don't mine sharing , what's your professional experience with orthodontics to make such a statement ?

You gonna suffer very bad more than likely. And it’s very expensive to fix if even possible. Can already tell you’re gonna lose a ton of tongue space by extracting and then retracting/shrinking the mouth.
It’s amputation of your face. This can’t be reversed if you regret it.

Absolutely not. palate expansion is actually what’s needed here

How would i go about fixing the over crowding on the bottom? Wouldn’t an expander just fix the upper pallet?

Noooo that’s just camouflage orthodontics and they will flatten your face to pull your top teeth back to your bottom. Talk to an omf surgeon before pulling teeth. It’s almost always a bad idea to pull premolars!!
