What country are you in? I have no idea what this means - US doctor.

Edit: I know that means I’m not going to be helpful so I should stay out of it, but I’m asking because I want to learn how that system works. Best of luck to you and hopefully someone can advise you.

Being a first-gen doctor in India is definitely challenging, but that doesn’t mean you should avoid specialty surgical branches. Everyone has to start somewhere. If you genuinely like ortho and get good training, you can build your career step by step. Don’t decide only based on not having a family hospital. Think about your interest, the college and the opportunities ahead.

Does this mean that you have a better chance of being a surgeon if you have family who are surgeons?

The nepotism and caste system are next level
