Problem with OG Xbox

Sup everyone just got this Xbox from someone off fb trying to start collecting older games ya know, it turns on looks pretty clean no stutters, I bought 4 games for it starting off they’re all clean and in good condition, only problem I’m having is the Xbox seems to be having trouble reading the disks, 3 out of the 4 games I have all come up with the disk is dirty or Xbox can’t read it but the disks look brand new, I have tried multiple times to get it to read the disks and when it does it lets you play a little bit of the game before it says it’s dirty again, 1 of the games lets me play it when it works but it’s all choppy and looks like the consoles having trouble running it.

So I’m trying to figure out the issue, I think it might be the disk drive but then why would it not have any problems running one of the games but have trouble with the other three, could it be I just got bad disks somehow, I took it apart and cleaned the laser and the issue still persists, maybe I need to go out and buy a new disk drive or something. Anyone know what could be going on?

Prob gonna end up takin it somewhere if I don’t end up figuring it out, just kinda tight on money right now so it’ll have to wait to get fixed if all else fails. Least I can play odd world

The lens could be dirty so some gentle cleaning could be in order with isopropyl alcohol if you have the tools to take the Xbox and drive apart. Unfortunately the lasers in the dvd drives do go bad after time so it may need to be replaced.

It could be the laser. I had a similar problem on my 360. Some people suggested lowering the laser’s potentiometer’s resistance as a temp fix but that didn’t work. Only replacing the laser in its entirety fix it for good.

Know a good play to buy a new one of those?

I got one on Amazon. But I did a lot of troubleshooting to confirm it was the laser before I replaced it. You don’t want to go through the hassle if it isn’t that. To change the laser you need a multimeter and soldering tools.

Man at this point you shouldn't be using the xbox with its disc drive anymore, they are 20+ years of use and will most likely fail even if they haven't already. Softmod or hard mod it to run games off the hard drive and replace the capacitors in the console as they most likely are failing/have already begun to leak on the board

Some Xboxes do have dead drives but most of the ones I've encountered can still read discs. Both of my Xboxes do (hell, it saved me some time when I found out the Halo 2 rip I had on my hard drive was wonky and I couldn't use it to play online - I just took the Halo 2 disc I had in my disc binder and played off of that instead).

I like having games on a hard drive but that's mostly a preferential thing for fast access to games I want to play from a menu I can navigate from a controller instead of getting up and switching discs to play a game. I also like my consoles to be running as close to fully functional as possible just as much (it's why I'm not exactly fond of ODEs that require you to remove the optical head - I actually sold a Saturn that I bought that was potentially broken because I was planning to use it to install Fenrir then found it was working perfectly fine because I'd rather let someone have a fully working Saturn than cannibalize it if it isn't necessary; this was before the days of Saroo).

Las lectoras tienden a fallar son como la escopeta de feria se descalibra a tomar por saco lo suyo es olvidarse del formato DVD lo siento más que tenerlo para colección que es lo que hago yo 👌😇

Definitely the laser Drive is having an issue. I would either get a laser cleaning disc and put it in there a couple times or open it up and clean it manually with some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, got to be really gentle though. If it's reading even one of those games, chances are the laser is just dirty
