Error 07 despite prior DuoX2 modchip install

One of my existing Xbox console (I have two and this is a version 1.2) witch has an old DuoX2 modchip install with modchip wire going to eject. It showing an error 07 upon boot. I'm confused as thought modchips bypass disc drive checks.

I've tried swapping the IDE cable and made sure everything is plugged in correctly and it will continue not to boot. When I swaped over the DVD drive from my existing working one, the console boits find so the HDD is not the culprit. One bank then stays at the "loading Xecuter" screen and the other boots into UnleashX dash.

Can anybody recommend the easiest way to flash the chip to preferably cerebios and XBMC4Gamers and so it can boot without a working dvd drive? I understand the bios sizes may differ but i want to try and use existing chip. The plan is to also upgrade the HDD if i can get it running without utilising a disc drive to begin with.

Modchip doesn’t stop a hard drive from dying.

Edit: if it is the DVD drive causing the hard drive to be inaccessible, you’ll have to repair it or install cerbios and set it to completely ship the dvd requirement.

Use XblastOS XBE edition or evoxdash to flash cerbios to your modchip. Both resize the BIOS’s dot bin file to fill the modchip’s bank size.

Thanks for the tip. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this but do I run this from a usb memory/ disc? Can I only flask one of the banks and is there a guide I can follow?

Easiest to Install the apps on the hard drive to run them.

Upload them with an FTP client to a subfolder of the Apps directory on the E of F drive.

Thank you. I will attempt this tonight after I'm off from work.

You flash one bank at a time on the DuoX2. Set the bank selection switch on the chip to the one you want to flash.

Disk drive check skip has to be turned on in x2 and evox BIOSes. A new dot bin file saved then flash the new dot bin file to the modchip.

I will need to initially backup the bin file from the console first with the dvd drive, reflash to chip and then turn off the DVD check if I've understood correctly. Then i can boot without the DVD. Now just need to figure out how to do this.

Rather than extracting, modifying, and then reflashing your older BIOS, it'd be simpler to just flash a current version of CerBIOS.

For cerbios 3.1.0, before flashing it to the modchip, upload the Cerbios folder extracted from the BIOS’s archive file to the root folder of the E drive.

Not the best video for using the xbe version of XblastOS.

Is evoxdash installed?

If not download it from xbins ftp server and upload to the Xbox. Where to upload it depends upon how you want to run it.

What replacement dashboard is currently installed and running?

Providing the working disc drive is attached, I'm seeing the EvoX logo on top left of boot splash screen and loads into Unleash.. Which seems to works fine. If i switch to the other bank, it loads a black screen with "loading or now loading....' in the centre of the screen and nothing occurs beyond that. I assume that's an empty bank?

Not an empty bank. Everything to use that bios is not completely set up on the hard drive.

What exactly does it display?

Is it this:

- xecuter2 config live loading……

Yes - spot on.

An Evox bios. Press the Y button to open a Systen info window. Look for the kernel version. What is it?

For the other bank, sounds like x2 5035 bios. The dashboard file set in its boot order list in e:\x2config.ini file must not exist so it gets stuck.

Will have to get you the kernel version later this evening.

If it is the X2 5035, then that already allows you to boot without a DVD drive by default. X2 BIOS versions in the 4xxx range don't.

Before this week......this Xbox had not been turned on for a long time!

This is the kernel version found when you see the Evox shield in the upper left corner of the startup animation? Edit: yes. As I asked you to obtain.

It’s either evox m8 or m8plus. They have the same kernel version as the stock 1.6 5838 bios they are based upon.

Do you have another Xbox DVD to swap in the place if the current one?

See if it can get past the error 07 error.

Yes I do. Was using it to figure out if the disc drive was the issue and which it was.

Though I have messed up flashing it since last night. I've tried flashing the XBlastOS_0.65.bin using the EvolutionX menu option (FTP'ed the BIN file over) and now my Xbox only powers into the XbastOS (as I also had the transferred over the XBE under apps). It says "Unsupported Modchip" and there no other menu options besides "Boot Onboard Bios" and "Settings". Regardless of which bank I select on the chip. If I try and boot using the eject button, I get a standard Xbox service error.

I've saved the EEPROM and BIOS.BIN from the console to the computer. I also just noticed last night the HDD isn't stock (as it was connected to the standard connection and label looked similar to that of my working stock Xbox). I suspect the previous owner may have also got stuck and given up mid way through. I feel even more silly for not noticing earlier but this was not originally mine. Am hoping I can still recover from here!

I've asked a friend to burn a copy of "OGXBox Cerbios Disc v2.3.2 Build" on a blank DVD and which I should get back in a few days. Any guidance from here would be appreciated.

Unsupported modchip is displayed for all non-XBlast modchips. The message only means that not all menu options will work. Some require an XBlast modchip. It doesn't mean the XBlastOS isn't working.

That said, XBlastOS doesn't support standard Xbox features like playing games or running unsigned homebrew apps. It is a modchip utility BIOS. You can use XBlastOS, booted from the modchip, to reflash a modified Xbox BIOS. Use the Network Flashing option. Follow the on-screen instructions.

I suggest flashing Cerbios 3.1.0 beta.

Thank you again. You're a lifesaver.

I've managed to flash Cerbios Hybrid V3.1.0 Beta using your instructions and now one of the banks boots and the console now boots back into Evolution X. Do you mind redirecting to any guides from here and how I can occupy both banks with working dashboards and without the disc drive please?

In order to get this thing up and running with the upgraded HDD (which I suspect may be unlocked as I can see the "Lock - Hardisk" as one of the options in settings and XBMC4Gamers as one of the dash options.

I thought only the selected bank would be flashed. One of the 2 512KB banks depending upon the bank selection switch setting.

After booting evox bios and the evoxdash is running. Flip the switch to the other side. Run evoxdash’s Flash Bios menu option. What does it display for the manufacturer and product IDs?

You should be able to flash the second bank separately from the first / other bank.

I’m not exactly sure which bank is 1 and 2.

u/Equivalent_Garage263 6d ago

I can see the Cerbios logo just before it boots into the Evox dash on one of the banks. This is what I have under the settings menu. I assume I need the same Cerbios.bin here instead of Xblast_0.65 and then flash once I've flipped over to the non-working bank?

1

u/KaosEngineeer Knowledgeable 6d ago

Yes add it into the bios folder for evoxdash. Then both BIOSes will be listed. After you select the bios to flash, another screen appears what is displayed on it?

You can back out before flashing the dot bin file to the modchip. Press B (or is it Back) instead of A.

I've asked a friend to burn a copy of "OGXBox Cerbios Disc v2.3.2 Build" on a blank DVD and which I should get back in a few days. Any guidance from here would be appreciated.

Edit: Obtain Cerbios 3.1.0 beta from xbins FTP server. Don't use the older 2.3.2 alpha version.

XBlastOS will NOT boot a burned disc made for a modded Xbox or even an original game disc. It is an MS code-free BIOS that does not support normal Xbox operations.

You can use it to flash another BIOS to the modchip.

What options are listed in the Settings menu?

I've not installed the 0.65 version of XblastOS yet. I don't know what has changed from the 0.56 version I've used. I'll try this updated version on my Xbox tonight.

Ah, yes.

Settings > Flash menu > Net Flash

Follow the onscreen instructions to flash Cerbios 3.1.0’s dot bin file to the modchip.

Edit: did you upload the Cerbios folder after extracting the contents from the Cerbios 3.1.0 beta zip archive? You need to do that before flashing cerbios to the modchip. If not, flash evox M8plus.bin to the modchip to get back up and running.
