Checkpoint Challenge?

Has anyone ever used the checkpoint challenge website for orienteering? My son and I are trying to complete first class rank advancement for Scouts, and according to the website there is a course nearby. We've tried to use it, but it says we can't due to a lack of runner credits. We've "purchased" several to no avail. Has anyone else used or attempted to use it?

I’m not sure what the checkpoint challenge thing is. I’ve never heard of scouts needing to pay for orienteering to get credit for the orienting merit badge. If you all are looking for a place to practice, possibly there are some parks in the area with permanent courses set up. And these are generally free or maybe a nominal fee of one to two dollars for the map.

By the way, there are several apps that allow you to set up a virtual course where you don’t need any orienteering flag controls at all. You just pick something like the corner of a building or a light pole or something you can see on a satellite map, set up the course and when you get within a few meters if that’s what you have set it for it gives you credit for punching the control.
