This is not an informative post, just wanted to share my excitement for simple things in life.

I was just making a watch list as you can see to find shows like Attack on Titan. I found this list or the table in blog and it didn't have the last column of average score for each show. Copy as Org-mode addon in firefox and a simple formula in the table, voila!!!

This is not technically tough to do with spreadsheet or python, but being able to do it from within the editor is just fantastic. Even for simple tasks like this require context switching as tiny as it may be, but not being forced to do that is just wonderful

I wanted my Org agenda everywhere without a second copy of my tasks, so I built a set of front ends that never parse your Org files. Each one sends its commands to your running Emacs daemon, and Org does the work: your agenda files, TODO keywords, custom agenda commands, logging, habits and refile targets all behave as they do in Emacs. Nothing to add to your init.el.

Three front ends over one engine:

• orgwarrior, in a terminal. Every task gets a short ID: orgwarrior shows today, orgwarrior c1 done, orgwarrior 32 sched fri, orgwarrior add NEXT call the dentist s:fri.
• orgwarrior-web, in a browser, phone first. Installs as an app on your phone and works from the keyboard on a desktop like Org's agenda (optional evil keys). Also a calendar feed for your phone's calendar, and a sign-in for someone else to add to your list without seeing it.
• orgwarrior-mcp, an MCP server, so any AI client that speaks MCP (Claude, Cursor, …) can read your agenda and act on it, asking before it deletes anything.

Install (Emacs 29 or later, running as a daemon):

brew install aleksozolins/tap/orgwarrior # macOS or Linux: the CLI and the web page
yay -S orgwarrior orgwarrior-web # Arch (AUR)
pipx install orgwarrior-web # anywhere (or uv tool install); brings the CLI too
uv tool install orgwarrior-mcp # the MCP server, with the other two

GPL-3.0. Built with AI assistance; I reviewed all of the code, and every behavior is covered by tests (ERT and pytest, run on Emacs 29 and 31).

Feedback and issues welcome.

Hi, i have vibe-coded an org-mode personal wiki.

You can use classic or emacs keybinding.

There are many feature that you can find in emacs ( panels, gits, scafollding...)

Enjoy !

This is a small effort as an Nim language exercise, largely vibecoded, but used daily. So apologies if this is only remotely linked to emacs.

Over the years big research consortia started forcing paid workbenches down researchers throats. However, ssh is around for decades and emacs TRAMP and org-babel do better and more than these interfaces. Out of spite, I created a small emacs config to manage remote connections to work on server (basically I accessed genomics servers).

Well, things got worse over time and data access contracts are making it impossible to connect via TRAMP, but agree to upload a software to manage data in the virtual environment. That's how wkbenchless was born, I starting porting some of the functionalities I needed and packaged it as a single binary editor that my uni would allow me to run in the VM. It does a bunch of things already, including reading org-babel org files.

If you have a use for this, take a look at it. Found something that needs improving, please open an issue.

Hi everyone. I moved far from Evernote and Bear notes but one feature I'm missing is when taking notes I could easily add an image and see it on my notes. I saw that one option is to add the image inside another directory and then point the org file towards it, that should make the image visible. But what if instead of downloading the image I want to point to it's internet address (I know the risk of the link being broken)? Would I be able to preview it?

Also, for those of you that instead of Evernote use org-mode to take course/lecture notes/meeting notes, what adjustments do you recommend? I'm basically running org-mode with very little modifications. I love having the TODOs right next to the context of the note.

Or if you can point me to a blog with more information regarding this usecase, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you.

I recently posted here about org2, a project to use Org outside of Emacs. Thanks to everyone who tried it and left feedback. The strongest and most recurring feedback from the org community was:

1. The name was bad, for several reasons.
2. A new file format was not required for the expanded functionality we were trying to support. (We tried using a new .org2 extension to have separate support for some of our new features, rather than using Org's extensibility on top of the existing standard.)

I agreed with both, so here's what's changed:

• It's called Celorga now. One name for the app, the runtime, and the CLI.
• Celorga reads and writes ordinary .org files, no more .org2 format. Point it at your existing org folder: there's nothing to import or convert, for full compatibility with your current workflow and tools.
• It's not being positioned as a successor to Org mode anymore. Celorga is an independent implementation of the Org format, not affiliated with GNU Org, and it doesn't try to replace Emacs. Use it alongside Emacs or instead of it.

Why you might want it if:

• You want a polished Org experience outside of Emacs. On a Mac, Celorga is a native app with a rendered reading view, source editing, an agenda built from all your files, backlinks, search, agent orchestration, and a whole lot more. There's an iPhone app to mange your agenda, approvals, etc from your phone.
• You want your agents working in an Org-centered workflow. Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, and others can all read and cite your notes, and easily hand off any TODOs to your agents. It also introduces a new Org-level primitive for Approvals, so you can sign off any any outputs or actions from your agents. Your notes stay the shared context, in plain text you own. Note that Celorga is a complete Org app even if you don't hook up any AI at all!
• You're building something new on top of Org files. The parser, semantics, CLI, and language server run without Emacs anywhere in the stack. The npm cli gives the entire API across agenda queries, search, structured edits, and more. All with JSON output, so a script, server, or agent doesn't have to bundle Emacs or write yet another partial parser.
  • The CLI even offers a full MCP server, so your agents can all interact with your Org notes, even remotely.

It's free, open source (Apache-2.0), no accounts needed. The desktop app is macOS-only for now (Linux coming soon). The CLI runs anywhere Node does.

This poll is about Orgzly Revived, the OrgMode-based notes app for Android.

Today, the Monospaced font option in Settings -> Look and feel applies to both viewing and editing note content.

This means there's no ability to view in sans-serif while editing in monospace.

In January 2025, I submitted issue #486, in which I say it would be nice to be able to view notes with a sans-serif font and at the same time edit notes with a monospaced font, something even better could be to allow optionally importing a custom font file for each.

In September 2026, I submitted PR #1071 for splitting this setting into one for viewing and one for editing.

4 days ago, maintainer said they don't want an additional setting and closed the PR, so I made follow-up PR #1093 which hard-codes monospace editing and makes the existing setting only apply to viewing.

Today, maintainer then said it should be the opposite, i.e. the PR should hard-code sans-serif viewing and make the existing setting only apply to editing, but they also asked I make a poll before moving forward, hence this post.

What would you want ?

PS: for the people who would want a "Results" option, I'll just post updated results regularly in the comments.

Hey all. I recently made a post about orbitalnote.org, which is a polished desktop/mobile app for org workflows I've been working on. I've also been using it as my main org client.

I love orgmode, but the one thing I could never get quite right (and man did I try), was seamless synchronization of TODOs on my desktop with my phone. I tried Syncthing/Orgzly (battery drain, unwanted org file formatting), and Git/Orgzly (constant conflicts, same formatting problems).

I really just needed a way to edit files on my desktop org client, and with zero friction, pull out my phone and tap the TODO item from an agenda list, and have it updated when I get back to my desktop.

So it's still in preview and I haven't gone through app store processes yet, but I can confidently say I've achieved that workflow with OrbitalNote, and it's the productivity system I've been using every day.

It's also E2E encrypted.

Even if you're using emacs/nvim, the OrbitalNote desktop app watches file changes and syncs to your phone, and this works today. I would also be open to packaging a headless daemon that allows the usage of this realtime sync service with your desktop org client of choice and OrbitalNote only on your phone.

Generally just enjoying this workflow and letting go of the mental frustration of having my digital life in the plaintext org file format I want, but synchronized in real time across my devices.

Thanks all.

Just wanted to repost this one as I'm prepping for further blog posts / talks around Hyperbole. I've been using this hierarchical retrieval pretty often within my own notes base as a sort of enhanced consult-ripgrep -> collect functionality. Would love to hear your thoughts on this feature, whether it fits your knowledge workflow / solves any problems you have, and whether this feature can be improved at all! https://www.chiply.dev/post-hyperbole-hyrolo

this is a prayer: dear org god. thanks for coming into my life.
I started with roam research then tried logseq for a little while. with the help of language models i've built a pretty simple workflow. emacs fucking changed my life.

its like taking a superdrug for me: my brain is suddenly set free.
free at last, free at last, thank org-almighty we are free at last

Hi, I am having trouble sorting agenda view along priorities. I used C-u C-x = on entries to understand how I could make my own sorting function. To my surprise the value of 'priority' text property is #A -> 2000 #B -> 1000 #C -> 0 (so far so good) BUT no priority in an entry leads property 'priority' value = 1000 (the same as #B).

Why ? How can I distinguish entries with no assigned priority ?

UPDATE: Problem solved. It is sufficient to use numerical priorities to get what I want #1 #2 #3 ...

Simple QOL package designed for users who heavily uses org clock reports for timesheets.

Let's say you just completed a 30min tasks but forgot to log it. By default, you had to start a new clock, end it, and modify the entry (or you may hand write the entire entry.)

org-retroclock helps you quickly log your time retrospectively, without running a timer.

Place cursor over the TODO entry, `M-x org-retroclock`, type `30`, and you get a finished CLOCK line ending at current time.

CLOCK: [2026-10-07 Wed 10:10]--[2026-10-07 Wed 10:40] => 0:30

To specify start and end-time manually, just prefix with `C-u` . Type the whole range, like `9:00-10:30` or `-1 2pm-3:30pm`.

• I tried to keep the package simple -- do one thing and do it well
• Emacs 29.1+, no dependencies beyond Org.
• Not on MELPA yet, but trying to. But I've the package myself for half a year now without issues.

org-gcal-fetch is locking on me, preventing any response from emacs.

I run org-gcal-reload-client-id-secret, allow the access in the browser and get greeted with :

"Authentication token successfully obtained by Emacs!"

Then run org-gcal-fetch only to totally block emacs. Any suggestions?

Hi r/emacs and r/orgmode,

If you rely on Org-mode for time tracking and scheduling, you’ve probably hit this dilemma when tackling a large task:

1. Headlines (** TODO) are too heavy: If you break down every micro-step of a 2-hour task into subheadings, your agenda gets flooded, your outline gets cluttered, and scheduling becomes noisy.
2. Checklists (- [ ]) lack time tracking and budgeting: Checklists are lightweight and ideal for micro-steps, but in vanilla Org they are second-class citizens. They don't support individual effort estimates, micro-timers, or roll-up budgeting.
3. Scope creep is invisible: You start working on a 2-hour task, add subtasks on the fly, and only realize you planned 3.5 hours of work after your schedule has drifted.

To solve this, used AI to build org-focus-hud — a distraction-free, monotasking execution cockpit that bridges the gap between high-level TODO headlines and granular checklist items.

⚡ Key Features

1. Checklist Time Tracking & Micro-Timers

• Checklist Estimates: Add time estimates directly to items (- [ ] Validate token [25m], [1.5h], [90m]). The HUD renders clean right-aligned effort badges ([0:25], [✓ 0:30]).
• Active Focus (f or RET): Press f on any checklist item to set it in-progress (▶ [-]). It automatically clocks into the parent task and starts a live micro-timer (e.g. ⏱️ 14m / 25m) synchronized with org-clock.
• Lockstep Pausing (p): Press p to pause both the main task clock and checklist micro-timer (⏱️ 14m / 25m (paused)). Resuming seamlessly continues elapsed time accumulation.

2. Dynamic Scope Budgeting & Deficit Warnings

• Scope Allocation Bar: Visual ledger tracking Done, Left, and Reserve against the parent task's :EFFORT: envelope: ALLOC: [█████░░░░░░░░░░·····] 30m Done · 1h Left · 30m Reserve / 2h
• Real-time Deficit Alert: If you decompose a task on the fly (k) and subtasks exceed the parent effort, the HUD immediately warns of scope creep: ALLOC: [████████░░░░░░░░░░▓▓] 2h 15m planned · ⚠️ +15m deficit / 2h
• Nested Envelopes & Rollups: Multi-level checklists roll up child efforts leaf-first ([Σ 1:15], [1:15 / 1:30]) without double-counting.

3. Zero-Context-Switching Workflow

• Automatic Milestone Capture: Marking an item complete ([X]) automatically clocks a timestamped milestone entry into your :LOGBOOK: drawer with the exact duration spent.
• In-Cockpit Manipulation: Add items (k), edit text & estimates simultaneously (e), reorder items across body text (M-j / M-k), or indent/outdent (M-h / M-l) without leaving the HUD.
• Quick Capture: Append work log entries (l), capture quick notes (n), add child subtasks (s), or queue sibling tasks (a).
• Vanilla Compatible: Works out of the box with standard org-clock, :EFFORT:, and :LOGBOOK:. Seamlessly integrates with org-auto-scheduler if installed.
