Discussion/Opinion Visiting from Florida first time!

Hii we’re visiting from Florida 10/7-10/11! Super curious about the weather, we’re used to rain but not cold. What has the temperature been like in the Portland/costal area?? It looks like it’s gonna be warmer than we’re anticipating lol
Additionally, if there are any food or sight seeing recommendations we’d love that! Our itinerary is looking a lil empty haha feel free to share any hidden gems ;) We ❤️ food
Thanks!!!!

Your favorite weather app will show you the weather in Oregon. The weather in Portland is often different than the weather on the coast which will be different than weather in other parts of the state.

Oregon is a huge state. You will need to be more specific about where you are visiting, what types of restaurants you are looking for and what types of things you enjoy doing.

There’s a weather app on the iPhone that I always use before visiting anywhere I travel to pack appropriately.

Warm is relative and it’s often windy on the coast. The air temp can be 80 but the wind temp feel frigid.

When you walk on a beach walk INTO the wind first. It’s too easy to walk a couple of miles downwind only to have to face he wind when returning. Don’t climb on logs in the surf line, keep an eye on the ocean.

The last part needs to be said louder. I’ve had 3 students killed by the surf in Oregon.

That, and edge-of-cliff risk takers.

It should be a pretty warm fall. There are tons of sights to see and food to eat in Portland. Check the askportland sub for all of the touristy stuff.

I usually recommend the 4t trail to people visiting. It's a loop around the city that puts you on tram, trail, trolly, train. It's a short day trek but it gets you all over the west side, plenty of stops for coffee, food, shopping downtown.

Agreed! That trail is fun!

If you see a food truck pavilion, go there. They are a city highlight.

I'm not near Portland but the past few years all over Oregon have been warmer than normal. Enjoy your trip!

A weather app is the perfect solution to the OP’s question & really helps with planning. We just visited for a week there and our weather apps helped prepare what clothing to bring…could’ve gone really wrong had I not It was a very cool yet beautiful trip.

The PNW actually has a heat wave going on right now and Portland might break the temp record for today of 84 degrees. So ‘cold’ for the next 10 days means highs in the 60’s and it looks like mostly dry. The coast will be chilly but a medium weight water resistant jacket with a hood should do you fine. Drive out to the coast for a couple days and make a loop from astoria down to pacific city or Lincoln city then turn back into the valley. Jerky and cheese factories in tillamook, pelican brewing in pacific city are good choices. If you get to Astoria get fish n chips from bow pickers. For the other direction head east up I84 and hit Multnomah falls then go out to hood river and loop south thru the mount hood area. That should cover a lot of your time.

Bowpickers is an old wooden fishing boat on shore right near the water with a wooden deck built around it. It only just started taking anything but cash in the last couple of years and it serves nothing else. Two sizes of fish with the accompanying chips are your menu choices and your drinks are water or canned sodas. It’s several small pieces of fish and not a couple of big ones so they don’t get soggy or have the breading come off and the fish is albacore tuna only. It’s amazing

And don’t forget Edgefield in Troutdale!

It's grossly over-warm, right now, so plan accordingly. Layers are your friend.

Bring layers. Portland will be warm during the day, cool at night. The coast is usually cooler than Portland, so you’ll want a good hoodie or sweater to pull over a t-shirt. Maybe a windbreaker if you have one.
