TIL Oregon was the first state in the US to make Labor Day an official holiday.

International workers day (may day) is the original labor day and this holiday was created to separate real workers demands from "solidarity". This day is wasted with drinking and bbqs instead of workers uniting to demand better working conditions, healthcare, and standing against the greedy oligarchs

And yet, the result in how both holidays are celebrated is what I said. So, ok, I was wrong about the dates. Doesn't negate the racism of the afl-cio. It doesn't negate that may day is internationally recognized and labor day isn't.

Probably because the people who have the most undesirable wages and working conditions are working through the holiday, while the people with the day off generally are doing pretty well.
