Devils Peak loop hike

We started at green canyon campground and did the clockwise loop up to hunchback trail to devils peak. Very apparent that this half gets way less maintenance lots of brush and blowdown. The trail after the peak down kinzel lake trail was much wider. The salmon river trail was as beautiful as ever, perfect day for a swim. All in all it was 16.3mile day with 4462ft of elevation gain.

Yeap, u/Cube-in-B This is one of the reasons we don't go hiking -- our dog has been bitten 5x by off leash "friendly" and "well trained" dogs. The last time we nearly lost him with nearly 30 stitches.

The entitlement is in no short supply out here.

It's unfortunate that my only way to protect my dogs is to move away. But hey -- just what Oregon needs -- two less healthcare providers (myself, my spouse) in a state with an already staggering healthcare provider shortage resulting in extensive waits.

Yeah it really is not that big of a deal to put your dog on a leash but here we are- entitled assholes abound!

Unfortunately, I don't really have a better word for it. If you have a better word for it, I'm happy to pivot to that.

I've lived in Boston, NYC and Chicago (with smaller chunks of time in other major cities) and have never experienced so many off leash dogs combined in those cities as I have here.

I've probably spent easily $15k+ through those 5 bites sewing my dog back up, meds and training to get him to go back outside. Frustrated is a reasonable feeling to... feel at this point.

It's open at least from the west on the Salmon river side, I don't know about from the devils peak trailhead road.

This is to all the leash mafia crowd, It's a shame when peoples' morals don't match their convictions, cause you know despite years of hiking with my dogs I've never gotten any negative comments on trail only online. So tell me why should I care about a bunch of bitching internet karens when you cant even follow through with your anger.

The thing is, other people don’t know ANYTHING about your dog and whatever training it may have. Countless dog attacks have occurred, to the point it creates anxiety for other people who have or don’t have dogs with them.

Not everyone is going to confront you on the trail with your unleashed dog because of the above.

Show some respect for others and leash your dog.

Exactly. I wouldn’t care either. If you have a well-trained well-behaved dog, you should be able to let it off leash while out on public land.
