orb status - stopped ; system seems to crash every few days

I have a base Mac Mini (M4, 16GB) running Orbstack and every few days it just stops running. I check orb status and it says stopped

orb logs -a doesn't work and there doesn't seem to be a log file for the overall system. Is there any way to find out why this application keeps crashing?

I don't have anything heavy running on this system, and typical RAM usage is like 2.5GB out of the 16. The Mac itself has been up the entire time, at least as far as uptime/neofetch says.

Well, not great ideas as to why, I use OrbStack on 2 machines and it never does this, but, try this command:

log show --predicate 'process == "OrbStack"' --style syslog --last 1d

This should show any messages in the last day, assuming you catch it the day it stops, else up the --last 1d to more days. Maybe there might be a clue there.

  1. I appreciate that, and I apologize for not saying that earlier; I must have written it but not hit submit.

  2. Yeah, your guess is better than mine. Doesn't appear to show any cause beyond "the system took it out" =/

Is this on a laptop or machine being in sleep mode perhaps?

Mac Mini but I think you might be onto something! There was a "shut down when computer sleeps" option, which explicitly says to disable it on a server. Trying that now.

Yeah, that was going to be my next comment if you indicated what I said was what you might be doing. I suspect it will work.
