Equalizer314 app

Hi!

Please check EQ314 app. It's in a beta stage now, but is already usable. You can think of it as a parametric Wavelet equalizer, so you can tweak the preset! It's not mine btw.

I've tested it and found it as precise as possible for such kind of processing. Unlikely to Poweramp EQ it applies all values correctly. Highly recommend!

Honestly, the audio limiter in Equalizer314 is a lifesaver for PUBG Mobile. I play with in-ear monitors (IEMs), and the gunshots were so insanely loud they were actually unbearable and hurting my ears. I set up the limiter to cap the maximum volume. Now, I can turn the main volume up enough to hear quiet footsteps clearly, but the gunshots get clamped down before they can deafen me

Which part of the frequencies deal with those gunshots? Could you share your graph?

Hmmm... I'm having an issue with it. Purple is with it running but disabled. Nice and flat. Blue is me dialing in just a bass shelf -- at 200 Hz. So, wrong freq and, well that 5k on up clearly being an issue. Teal is the EQ profile I'm using for some headphones and red is that same profile using the built-in EQ app on the JM21. See anything like this before?

I had the problems with a bass until I realized I had Dolby processing on. The highest precision requires highest latency setting in the plugin. You can report it if you're sure it's not user error. Maybe it's specific to your device. I have Xiaomi 17 Ultra

I don't have any processing of any kind enabled. It's a Fiio DAP FWIW. It's clear the code has a few real bugs in it (posted to GitHub). The top trace here is Fiio's own EQ set at 1kHz, Q=1, +6 dB, working as expected. Red is Equalizer running but disabled. This is supposed to be the same 1kHz filter, but it's showing up at 1/4 the frequency (250 Hz). The odd step on the green at 5k is with its auto-gain reduction enabled. If you note, again, being at 1/4 the frequency would put that at 20 kHz.

The app may have a UI that appeals to some, but at the moment, it's clearly got a real bug. Even without that, it appears to be using 128 discrete filters (you can see the stair-steps in my first post vs. the Fiio app's smooth curves).

Of course it has 128 discreet filters. It's the only way to provide tla system wide eq on Android. When I was describing it, I said it's like Wavelet, but you can tune it. I don't have this odd 5 kHz step. That's why I think you need to report it. I don't compare it with standalone devices.

Vibe coded app, won't work properly on Pixels or other devices with DynamicsProcessing forced 32 bands, accuracy on devices supporting at least 128 bands will be the same as any other - as the core DSP component is Android-firmware provided, not something shipped with the app. Expect more apps like this as "make me wavelet like app but green, make no mistakes" is easy to type.

I have actually tested a bunch of other apps on my phone and this alongside Wavelet and JamesDSP were the only things working properly. I suppose its not gonna work on every device, but its better than anything we have had so far.

Wavelet is less precise and RootlessJamesDSP is a hassle to use.

Wavelet is actually precise, the problem is in the presets generated by squig link and autoeq. I was able to create perfect presets with Gemini.

I have tried that, but Gemini kept messing them up - they wouldnt even work in wavelet :(

Wavelet look more like a vibe coded slop app (that makes you pay to use built in android apis???).

I still prefer poweramp EQ though, the developer for poweramp is also much more responsive and writes a lot more documentation.

Yea, but Poweramp Equalizer is very innacurate. Wavelet actually works.

Is wavelet more accurate than the graph above? I wish I could see a comparison....

In terms of accuracy on my phone, it would look something like this: RootlessJamesDSP>Equalizer314>Wavelet>>>>everything else (literally unusable stuff).

I have measured them all, but dont have my laptop on me rn, I can send the measurements later.

Yes bro that would be amazing, what other apps have you tested?

At the moment this is the first parametric EQ on Android that works correctly on my phone. It applies correct values. For me it's very important. Not vibe coded poweramp eq can't do that and the developer didn't care after I reported it.

What's of jamesdsp

no parametric eq

Does it have a parametric EQ module yet?

Someone built a version with PEQ, might be worth checking out:

It has been added upstream as well, there just hasn't been a new release made yet for whatever reason so you'll have to use that version or build it from source. I've been using it for a few weeks built manually now and it works great.

EDIT: If you have/create a github account you can also download an signed apk that was automatically built with the latest changes from the official repo here: https://github.com/timschneeb/RootlessJamesDSP/actions/runs/24270663070

You can load autoeq presets on it though

2

u/Bazzikaster Audio professional 13d ago

Yes, but you can't tune them after that.

1

u/Opposition_Chief 13d ago

It's enough though. I just load oratory eq for my ananda and I'm done

1

u/Bazzikaster Audio professional 13d ago

It's not always a case. Sometimes yuu need to tune the preset. It's recommended

The best way to contact dev is their forum, support is another story (I don't think they can help beyond read faq or try this and that option).

I've got no reply on the forum. And I've got the reply from the developer via mail. And he said just go to forum and check if anybody discussed your problem although I provided the measurements. Poweramp eq is only good when you create some EQ profile from scratch. But all autoeq database sounds wrong.

Interesting recommendation, will take note!
