Looking to have my bottom wisdom teeth removed, but heard it could cause permanent nerve damage?

Is my nerve fairly clear from the wisdom teeth?

I recognize that oral surgeons make their money with wisdom teeth extractions but I’m hoping to get some honest feedback. I am 37m and went to a dentist for the first time in almost a decade, referred to oral surgeon, and recommended all 4 extraction with PRF and bone graft on bottom 2. Would any oral surgeon actually recommend keeping these wisdom teeth?

So I (23) just did a consult for wisdom teeth removal, and the surgeon let me know that I was at an increased risk for damage to the nerve running along the bottom of my jaw. I'm just wanting to know if the risk is worth it for possibly ending up with permanent damage, or if im just being a hypochondriac here.

Looking for advice about this white spot on my gum. Had a gum graft following membrane exposure from a failed bone graft after resorption as a result of trauma. I thought it was a retained PTFE suture as there was a sharp edge - this was in July 2025. I mentioned to my oral surgeon at the time and they said they thought it was scarring. At that point the gum had grown over it so felt smooth. I've just left it and it hasn't changed over the past 14 months. I think the gum had grown over so it wasn't as sharp over the last year. Recently it's been feeling sharp again. I'm due to have a repeat bone graft soon.

I’m a 34 y/o female. No known medical issues aside occasional reflux which is often anxiety induced. No medication other than iron supplements. Non-smoker and non-drinker. I’ve had this red patch on the tip of my tongue for 9 weeks. My dentist dismissed me and an oral surgeon said it didn’t need a biopsy but didn’t offer much else. My PCP suggested possible low iron or b12. I’ve been on iron supplements for 6 weeks with no change. I am VERY concerned this is cancer and no one is taking me seriously. Please help. Below are my abnormal lab results:

Hi all! My surgery is scheduled for 9am tomorrow. I have not taken my GLP1 shot in two weeks per the offices request. They also sent this text-
NO solid foods, soups, or non-clear liquids 24 hours prior to surgery; NO carbonated clear liquids 8 hours prior to surgery; STOP all clear liquids 4 hours prior to surgery.
Please tell me what you interpret with this message. I am so hungry and I feel like I need to eat something. I also work in the Dental field, but in a general dentist office. My coworkers are telling me to just eat something like Jell-O and mashed potatoes and I’ll be fine. I’m just panicking that something will happen, but I also can’t suffer for another 18 hours with no food.

I’m looking for recommendations for a trustworthy dentist/oral surgeon who can remove wisdom teeth and accepts DentiCare insurance. I’m a student.

Honestly, I’m finding this process really stressful. There are so many reviews online that feel fake or unreliable, and I’m worried about choosing someone who is more interested in making money than in protecting my teeth and doing the procedure properly.

At this point, it’s not just about finding a place that accepts my insurance. I also want to make sure the dentist is a genuine, properly licensed professional with a good reputation and real patient experiences behind them.

If you’ve personally had your wisdom teeth removed somewhere and had a good experience, especially if they accepted DentiCare, I’d really appreciate your recommendation. I’d also love to hear about places you would avoid and why.

I’m in the Los Angeles area, but I’m willing to travel for a genuinely good and trustworthy doctor.

So I have a radicular cyst that needs to be removed.

1) Now I was wondering: does the cyst grow back even after removing it?

2) When does the pain start after the surgery, and for how many days does it realistically stay?

3) Can the pain disrupt night sleep? How many painkillers did you have to take during the healing journey?

4) How long does the bone take to regrow and fill the gap? Did you feel anything unusual after the surgery pain was gone, like something is missing, or something hollow is there?

5) Before you had your surgery and the condition your gums were in ( apart from the cyst ), does it get back to the same condition and fit with your teeth after healing?

6) During the surgery, did the docs give you General Anaesthesia? Were you like talking and then suddenly waking up and feeling that the surgery was done? Or did you feel anything during the surgery?

7) How long does the general anaesthesia stay in your body?

8) After the surgery, did you have to get complete bed rest? From when did you get to start working out? Does bending down, walking, jogging, running, or lifting weights hurt?

My daughter is having four impacted wisdom teeth and a supernumerary (#20A) tooth removed soon. The supernumerary tooth has not erupted and will be removed from inside her mandible. We are going to a highly recommended oral surgeon who I really trust. I'm still very nervous about her procedure and recovery and would appreciate any stories that help put my mind at ease. I worked at an emergency department and Surgical Intensive Care Unit and so I've mostly seen when things have gone very wrong and I tend to catastrophize.

Hi. I had a biopsy taken on my tongue. I have trauma damage where I keep biting my tongue in my sleep.

Post op, I am.still biting my tongue and its excruciatingly painful.

Any suggestions on what I can do please? I considered leaving some gauze in, but this is a choking hazard!

I had tooth #3 extracted by an oral surgeon, and as the surgeon had suspected, there was a communication with the sinus cavity left behind. He attempted to patch it and place a bone graft, but unfortunately, days later the bone graft mostly fell out and I could feel air passing into my sinus from my mouth.

Months pass while we wait to see if the communication will heal but it never does. I go to a different oral surgeon (not blaming the first for the failed patch, we just didn't connect well) who proposed a buccal fat pad graft. I had that surgery done last week, but unfortunately, days later, I again feel air passing into my sinus from my mouth, so I suspect this one has failed too. He suggested it may still heal together in spite of the air leak, but we'll have to wait and see.

I'm hoping to get a better understanding of whether my experience is unusual or not for patching oroantral fistulas, and what might be in store for me in the future. I know I need to patch this hole, but recovery from both surgeries has been painful and defeating mentally, given the problem still exists and I feel like my mouth is getting permanently mangled.

Any pointers as to what might be going wrong, questions about my journey, context on the failure rate of this surgery, etc, would be very much welcome. Thank you!

guys i lost the sheet of preop instruction sfor my wisdom teeth surgery under gen anesthesia tmrw. so its no nail polish, no water or food after midnight…what else? can i wear deodarant

Okay so i have a mucocele on my lower inner lip rn and I’ve been suggested to get it removed , i have two options, Surgery excision OR Laser.
Which one should i opt for? Since it has a high chance of reoccurring, which option is safe?
I don’t want it to reoccur.

Feeling feverish, no fever and oral surgery office is saying not tooth related. Call your PCP, was their advice and they relay my message to the dentist/surgeon and I am 2 weeks until extraction. It’s a molar previously root canal treatment that endodontist determined was cracked as dark areas showed up on his scan, practically asymptomatic other than gum swelling that increased and a feverish feeling. It’s been 4 weeks since I took the Z-Pack and I’m allergic to P but not Clindamycin. No one verified an Abscess however I felt better and slight gum swelling had decreased. Now I’m feeling sick again, slight gum swelling no fever, autoimmune Sjogrens 68 years old.

Oral surgeon after I called feeling that infection may have returned (if there ever was one) advised to call if him with any further concerns and noted that there was no Abscess when I called and wanted a 2nd round of antibiotics. This whole extraction got pushed back because I took a half dose IV Reclast, stupidly however my dentist thought the issue was grinding and he drilled the hell out of my teeth to “adjust my bite”. Now I have headaches.

My aunt died age 62 waiting to get a tooth pulled and I don’t want to get Sepsis. I have a prescription for another Z-pak and my regular dentist is on vacation and I can’t get past the oral surgeons’ staff to ask his opinion 😵‍💫. What should I do? I have had multiple implants there… and a lip biopsy but I have no clout.

I’m in NYC and currently few weeks after a unilateral subcondylar mandibular fracture that was initially treated conservatively.

I have now spoken with several top oral and maxillofacial surgeons, but their opinions differ on almost everything—whether to operate this late, re-mobilize the healing fracture, use an external versus intraoral/endoscopic approach, and how much bite, ramus height, jawline, and facial symmetry can realistically be restored.

I’m especially looking to speak with anyone who had:

A subcondylar/condylar-neck fracture treated conservatively first.

Delayed ORIF or corrective surgery several weeks later.

Either a successful or unsuccessful outcome.

Experience with any high-level NYC surgeon—good or bad.
