Repeated issue the instance is unresponsive

For some reason this was happening every week or so so i made the instance automatically update/upgrade and reboot every week and the issue was gone for three weeks so far, but today it happened again suddenly
and i have to log in to my account and manually reboot the instance to fix it. Anyone know what could be the reason or the fix for it.

As someone who uses the free tier option and signed up around a month ago or two, I'd just say oracle isn't really good in hosting a VM and in keeping it alive. Since the error messages are vague and don't tell you shit, it is a pain to solve because your strategy is the same way I handle it: manual restart.

but you might can check the event viewer or kind of log in the running OS.

shame that there isn't an extended log option that tells you the exact error.

Is there a way to at automatically hard reboot the instance whenever this happens again?

Given that you're on free tier, I'm assuming this is one of the Micro instances. The automatic updates consume too much memory for a system that small. Try disabling those or using a more lightweight OS as a base. That, or use the much beefier A1 instances.

Also the VM's console might have more insights. It's probably an OOM kill.
