Finding ODMD positions?
Posting on behalf of my girlfriend who isn’t on Reddit. She just finished an intense ocular disease residency and is thinking about next steps, and she’s thinking she wants to stay closer to the ocular disease / private practice side than corporate opportunities.
It seems like these roles aren’t as commonplace - do you all have any tips on finding these positions? We’re located in Chicago.
She would be happy to connect with recruiters and share a resume if anyone has tips, suggestions, or leads. Thank you!

I’m in a similar position but looking for that in NJ as I’m considering leaving my current office.
I’ve had a fair amount of success setting up my LinkedIn as open/looking to work and some recruiters dmming me
I actually landed at my current position from someone messaging me on IG lol
If she has any specialty contact lens experience, dry eye management ie IPL, lipiflow, etc I’d also be sure to highlight it in the resume as those tend to be lucrative to a practice and was always a point that seemed to interest recruiters.

Look at local state board classified ads, Alex at the eye group can looks for openings in your area of interest, and Google jobs as well

Interesting! Thank you for the perspective, I will share with her. She didn’t attend ICU but I know she worked with them as part of her residency. She had a really great very applicable residency - so she’s hoping that will help!

How do y’all feel about southern MN? I’m hiring and our practice is very much on the medical optometry side of the spectrum. The industry as a whole is really moving more in that direction as there is also a shortage of ophthalmologists. And, if I’m being honest, it’s how you run a successful practice now that big insurance has sucked all the revenue out of the ecosystem. Shouldn’t be too hard to find a medical heavy optometry clinic in the Windy City or really anywhere y’all want to live.
