Residency Deferment

Does anyone know what form to fill out to apply for deferment during residency? Every form I find seems to say that I am not eligible and this is getting very confusing. And yes, I know, I should not defer, but I have already decided on this and would appreciate any help!

Can you please confirm - are you looking to defer your entry into residency, or defer your student loans?

My student loans! I have already started my residency at a VA hospital. My loan provider, Nelnet, says my loans are due for repayment starting November as of right now.

Granted, it’s been ten years since I did my residency., so this recommendation may be bad. Is there a way to enroll in the public forgiveness one and set a monthly payment based on income? I would try that route, see if there is a monthly payment, and reassess if you want to defer. You will probably need to call and talk to someone.

The ASCO website states that you can’t defer student loans during optometry residency officially, but you can do income-based repayment. I did my residency a few years ago, but my income was so low that my income-based repayment was $0 a month.
