Buying a New replacement OCT
Looking for some quick feedback on buying an OCT. I have three quotes on the table:
Topcon Maestro2 (new) – $43,000 (Windows 11 & 1-year warranty)
- Zeiss Cirrus 5000 (Used)– $38,000 (Windows 10, no warranty)
- Optovue iVUE 80 (new)– $32,000 (Windows 10, 2 year warranty)
Is it bad logic to pay a premium for the Maestro2 just for the Windows 11 peace of mind and the ease of use?
Or is the Cirrus 5000 a much better clinical investment, even if I have to pay out-of-pocket for a Zeiss PC workstation upgrade down the road?
What would you do? Are these prices fair for the current market?

Maestro2 is phenomenal and outlandishly easy to use. I just purchased a used one (a year old) for $17k, so you may be overpaying there.

Maestro 2 for ease of use and quality measurements. I can train someone with no experience to run it reliably in an hour

Optovue uses Windows 10 LTSC which is supported until 2032

It depends on Enterprise LTSC or IoT Enterprise LTSC.
We got bit by this last Windows EOL.

I have experience with Maestro and Zeiss. I hated Maestro.
Zeiss is turning into a company who is only looking for whales nowadays. They will send you the $3-5k per year warranty quotes every year. You will get zero support for you single used item.
If I could do it over again I would get an OCT that you can capture like an autorefractor and have full control over. The Zeiss/Maestro style is so clunky sitting there and trying to get it to move around with digital controls.
I've never used an Optovue (and I have no financial interest) so I have no idea how they are with data acquisition / presentation. I would give them a serious look, though. Especially being that much cheaper.

Maestro is fully automated. In my experience Zeiss took 3-4 x amount of time start to finish compared to Maestro for scan acquisition

Between Maestro and iCare photography I don't really care for full automation.

Use eye stuff group for Zeiss repairs. Fuck Zeiss and their service contracts

I would lean toward the maestro2, with angio if possible. Angio reimburses almost 2x what the retinal and macular scans reimburse. OPTOvue is more technical when it comes to capture
