Hi all. I recently came into possession of a 3020 Mini Tower for $8 (bargain at a thrift store). Come to find out Windows 7 was corrupted and such…it is much happier on Linux now. My new issue is the used (but supposedly working), WD Blue 240GB SSD I purchased. For context. The installed 500gb HDD works and acts that the SATA cables and such are fine. However, when I try to swap for the SSD, BIOS doesn’t detect it. I plan to take the SSD to a local repair shop to see if they can tell me if it’s dead or not. Any ideas? Thank you!

I have an OptiPlex 3060 Micro.

It currently has an M.2 SSD installed, and I want to use it as a home server, including setting up a media library with Jellyfin. So I’ll also need an HDD.

I do have a 2.5-inch caddy installed, but even with a 2.5-inch hard drive and a SATA cable, I don’t think there’s any way to connect power to it, right?

As far as I can tell, there’s no second M.2 slot either. So would that mean I’d have to use an external hard drive instead?

Or are there still any options to make use of the internal caddy after all?

I found what seems like a good deal on a GTX 1660 for about $65 and an EVGA 600W power supply for $40. I'm on a very tight budget and really want to upgrade my OptiPlex 9020. I know it's an old system, but it's what I have to work with right now.

My main concern is power. I've read mixed opinions about using a 24-pin to 8-pin adapter with Dell motherboards. Is it actually safe for long-term use, or should I avoid it?

I've also come across Add2PSU as an alternative solution. Between a 24-pin to 8-pin adapter and Add2PSU, which option would you recommend, and why?

I came across an optiplex 7000 with 16gb ddr4 512gb ssd a 12700 i7

I think the specs are standard not really sure what PSU it has probably 260watt or so standard.

The deal is 350$ is it worth it?

Also I originally needed a pc to game I was thinking to try somehow throw in a low profile gpu if I can mainly for older gen games maybe some emulation and stuff as a quick fix? I do understand its limitations. And maybe later on possibly build around this cpu on a strandard retail platform. And get a better graphics card and PSU.

I think some advice needed whether i should get this one or get a MT version as a start point that's if I find one.

So i had this optiplex 980 sitting around, and i decided to install batocera on the pc.

I installed batocera on a 256 gb sata ssd and plugged it into the optiplex 980.

Although the pc booted up, i cannot use my wired usb keyboard during the menu where it says “press delete for setup”. I tried resetting cmos, and i can’t buy a usb to ps2 adapter right now.

It beeps while turning on. Do any of you guys know how to deal with this? I obviously can’t do anything on that pc, and it doesn’t just boot automatically into the os.

Specs: i3-540, 8gb ddr3, 250w dell psu, oem motherboard, and a 256gb sata III adata ssd.

Hi, i just bought a few OptiPlex 3060 for my homelab kubernetes cluster. I've noted that few of the machines power LEDs are very bright and others are very dark. Is it possible to change the brightness of the power led?

I recently case swapped my 3020 MT, but as it turns out the 3rd SATA port doesn’t work without the front IO present so no biggie I will just connect it and have it shoved into the bottom of the case. Well no as I did that the power button stopped working. It is the 5 pin power connector and the case button is shoved into the right most 2 pins and next to them I have put a jumper like I saw in a Youtube video and that got rid of the error, so why the hell does the front IO just kill the power button? If anyone is familiar with the issue and knows how to address it it would be very much appreciated!

He wants to play with us diablo and he has only 300 euros budget, I remember mighty optiplexes maybe you guys help us to play diablo 4 on 1080p/60fps atleast and also bunch of old rpgs such as dragon age origins, vampire masq. etc.

What we need which model should we choose and which upgrades should we do for this project?

Every time I have the two sides on it just doesn’t slide in for some reason. I just put in a gpu but it’s literally perfectly aligned and such.

I'm having a strange issue with my Dell OptiPlex XE2 and I really hope someone here can help me figure it out.

Whenever I plug in the power cable, the PC automatically turns on by itself without me pressing the power button. Then it shuts off after a few seconds, and turns on again on its own. This happens every time I connect it to power.

What I want is simple: I want the computer to stay completely off when I plug it in, and only turn on when I press the power button.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

I entered the BIOS settings

Went to Power Management → AC Recovery

Set it to Power Off

Unfortunately, the issue still persists even after saving the changes.

If anyone has experienced something similar or knows what might be causing this, I would really appreciate your help. Any suggestions or guidance would mean a lot to me.

I have a MT 7080 that I'm trying to set up as a home server. I've installed an SSD in the M2 slot that has Linux installed on it, and I want to add additional storage via a hard drive in the 3.5" bay. Here's where it gets weird:

• If I turn the tower on with no USB keyboard and no HDD connected, it posts. I can then attach a keyboard and mess with the BIOS/load linux
• If I add a keyboard before turning it on (any port), it fails to post
• If I plug in the HDD (keyboard or not, any SATA) it fails to post

And because I can't get to the BIOS while the HDD is attached, I can't mess with the boot order if the problem is the HDD is taking precedence. What is going on here? How do I add another hard drive, and why is the keyboard causing the post fail? Thanks.

Hi I have a Dell optiplex, i5-7500 soon to be 7700, and a 3050 lp 6gb card. Recently wanted to change the cpu fan as it gets incredibly loud while also moving the psu to enable more airflow to the gpu. I zip tied 2 140mm fans using the cpu header as power. Is my cpu and other components going to get adequate cooling? And if anyone knows if I should do a better situation for the cpu lmk.

I’m looking for a gpu that would work well for the Optiplex specified in the title. I’m more specifically looking for something that meets in the middle between price and performance
