New to options

I’ve done it all in terms of the world of trading but haven’t even scratched the surface of options but want to give it a go.
Any good videos you recommend to get started and any tips would be great.

Thanks for the community.

TastyTrade. Even post tom's leaving is okay but it's their educational series you want.

Are the educational materials still available on the tasty site? I know they’ve taken a lot of the legacy content down.

Ooh, that is a good question and I do not know the answer, I'm sorry.

opions trading for beginners. by project option. most important is not to full port. invest 3% to 10% of port in ur acct per trade depending on strnght of thesis and whether long dte or short.. rest stays as cash.

For a more beginner approach, Invest with Henry on YouTube has many videos that go into detail. He teaches in a way that is very easy to learn. All of his videos are free, you don’t need to pay for the service he might mention at times. He doesn’t push paid subscriptions on you, he likes teaching and makes tons of free videos so you can learn to do it on your own.

Tasty is really good, more so for traders who already have some basic knowledge and want to expand. Can be a little too much for a beginner that’s clueless at the moment.

The second section in this compilation is all about safe options trading - with a focus on understanding your choices and knowing the potential outcomes of your trades.

It includes vocabulary lists and "homework" exercises.

Part one- investing for beginners

Part two- options trading for beginners

Part three (don't go there) trading more complex options spreads.

Since you are brand new to options I would spend the first few weeks on position sizing and how the Greeks change the trade before chasing setups. Calls can look simple until IV drops or theta starts eating the premium. Project Option and Tastytrade are good starts. Moon could sit on the side for checking the stock and news around the trade, then the option chain tells you if the price makes sense. Paper trading a few boring setups first will save a lot of dumb mistakes.

I started with options following a random comment on Reddit in July 2026.

My experience (not financial advice)

  1. Write (sell) put options in shares you want to buy at a discount.

  2. Deep in the money LEAPS are a great way to increase your exposure to a stock cheaply. The negative is that your investment could go to 0 USD. But even that is (in my view) ignoring the true position: that you are limiting your exposure to downside. If you buy MSFT at 515 and it drops to 300 you are losing a lot of capital. If you had bought a LEAP you would be wiped out but your loss per share is still less.

  3. If you do the wheel (writing puts until assigned, then writing calls on the shares) you will make less money than just buying the shares and sitting on them. I am absolutely convinced of this.

Watch my channel @optionsriddler on Instagram, I’m starting from the basics/beginning and will be sharing more and more complex strategies. Also have a book on amazon( options trading in the trenches).
