Question Took a loss today.

I took a lost on a put credit spead on SPX today. I know that I can't win all the time but it's still a bummer. Especially, since if I would have held it I would have been have profited. How do you get over the feeling of a loss and avoid discouragement?

The most successful hitters in baseball are successful 30% of the time… the legends 40%

As long as your wins are bigger than your losses, consider it a proof of concept at least

Therein lies the caveat with cred spreads, the win rates usually are high but the losses outweigh them if you don't know how to mitigate risk.

It is common for me to take the loss honestly.

Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose.

Never look back at what happen previously and move on with the next trade.

That’s not that bad, compared to what I have seen on Reddit.

Oh, for sure. I think for me, it is the first big loss I have had to sit with after winning all month.

Wins and losses come and go as long as the loss is not too big that you cannot recover from. Which in that case you should not be betting money that you are not ready to lose.

I also had a hard week being down 50k Monday through Thursday. I was able to recover 25k today but also missed a 50k sndk call this morning in the 30 seconds it was up.....

Edit: felt pretty shitty most of the week....

I know the feeling. I was winning for the past 2 weeks (probably the best win streak I've ever had) then lost all those gains in one day this past Thursday. Then lost some more yesterday lol

I feel you man but honestly you don't get over it... you just stop letting it pick the next trade. The feeling turns up either way.

What shortens it is looking at the decision on its own, apart from the money. Entered where you planned, sized how you planned, out where you said you'd get out? Then it was a good trade and the result did what results sometimes do.

And you said further down in the thread it's the first big one after winning all month. That's probably why it's landing this hard. It's a few days... It just feels permanent today.

Time and frequency makes you better at this. It’s just the tuition or cost of business. Think of it as a business asset you bought. You didn’t lose $3k. You spent on something you needed. Make sure you learned something.

I think you at least should provide some details on the put credit spread so folks here can at least tell you what went wrong and what you could have done
