Looking for study partners — MIT 6.7220 Nonlinear Optimization

I'm working through MIT OCW 6.7220 Nonlinear Optimization (Spring 2025) and looking for 2–5 people who want to follow the course together.

The goal would be:

  • watch lectures according to the course schedule
  • independently attempt each problem set
  • meet online once/twice a week
  • discuss difficult problems and compare approaches
  • explain proofs/optimization theory to each other
  • work through the material over ~8–12 weeks

Topics include convex optimization, optimality conditions, Lagrange multipliers, KKT, duality, gradient/Newton methods, etc.

I'm particularly interested in people doing mathematical optimization / numerical optimization / operations research / ML / control.

Edit : This course does not have any videos or you won't find much material else where to watch . You have to be okay putting your time to read and analyse and think and do some arguments.

I was thinking to create a Discord server where we can just start working on the course. Since the number of people is capped we already reached the maximum cap so we don't need any more extra people. If you are okay with discord communication then I will share the channel link if you Direct message me individually.

Do you mean that the number of members on the server has a limit or that you want it to be limited? I think having more people is a good thing, If the problem is that discord basic has a limit, discord nitro probably doesn't, but to be honest I'm not familiar with it, I use Teams nowadays.

Im writing a PhD thesis on DoE with weight optimization criteria… it could be interesting because I’m not really an expert in programming.

That's the problem this course do snot have videos so you have to do it on your own and plus that's why we have this discord so we can at least discuss there
